If you could improve one thing about this forum...

What would it be?

I would switch to the newest version of Vbulletin ASAP, include the Blogging add-on which allows users to blog within the forums, an add-on that allows the posting of music clips.

I'd also if possible get together with GetDarker and Barefiles to potentially work out some sort of hosting for individual mixes for users of the forums, tunes, etc... just makes sense and those improvements are neither costly, nor all that controversial, I think.

So what changes would you make, if any?

I'd ban you for a start.

only kidding - nothing needs to be changed, it works fine as it is. If anything needs to be changed I think some radio stations - especially the smaller ones should share resources and broadcast each others stations while they are off air.

I think I would change the colours. That's about it. Move away from the default subSilver theme. Doesn't have to be anything exciting, maybe a splash of orange for example.

the skin.

Yea, that too. There are actually a lot of skins listed as being installed, but when I pick the one I want in preferences, it just stays the same, meaning the admins have blocked the feature, even with all the shit installed already. Makes no sense, but not much does.

The current skin could be loaded into apache's cache - who knows.

I am sure there is a reason for it, technical or what ever.

I installed a PHPBB once to see what extra features could be added here just from the regular installation. In the admin options it can be changed by a button click.

There is more to a website than just phpBB admin panel.

You know what apache is right? and MySQL? read up on some guides about performance before you say something silly like that.

I have 3 servers sitting in my home actually. All 3 of them seem to be working well enough that I might consider myself somewhat knowledgeable on the subject. You really need to learn to read. I didn't ask what you opinion on what the reasons it hadn't been done were. I asked what should be changed, not why hasn't it been.

Another feature that needs to appear QUICKLY is an ignore feature. So much quicker than a ban, since some people clearly are less concerned than others. I'd also like a feature where I could regulate who can and cannot see my posts. I'll personally code that feature myself if someone will install it here.

3 servers at home is nothing to brag about. Just smells like fail to me. Why don't you get a proper server and colo it somewhere in a proper environment instead of on your 10mb Virgin Media connection.

I buy my bandwidth in blocks actually. And I don't know if you work for Virgin and get paid for namedropping them, but they don't own any of the broadband market over here.

Probs include a bit of Keegan suggesting that you shouldn't change a winning team.

phobang, i think the reason that no one is particularly fussed about technological improvements to dubstepforum is that generally people use the forum as a simple tool to discuss music, promote their music/club night or to put up a mix they've done. some even join up without wanting to post. this is basically because most people have lives...

(no offence mods, you're doing a sterling job!) :D

Yet you take the time to respond to threads like these... in the time that you responded about why not to change anything, you could have made a competing thread and whichever people wanted to post in, they would post in.

I also didn't ask why you thought something SHOULDN'T CHANGE, I asked what you would change. If nothing, you can simple say NOTHING and leave it at that.

There are a few features I wouldn't mind seeing here, as it makes sense to stay where I am, rather than try and build a community from scratch, does it not?

1. Vbulletin has the option of "buddy forums" and "buddies" which means that each individual member can have their own private forum that only people they select can see what is being posted in that forum and respond.. this would be great for planning parties/showing certain people new tunes without having to worry about the whole forum seeing them, etc...

2. Vbulletin is a better and more stable software, which can be modded to do several things that I would love to see here, which would make my and many other lives easier.

3. You can't add clips of tunes, images, etc to your posts under the current setup, which would be awesome and is done on pretty much every forum I post on. It's basically a standard to live by, and would be very nice in addition to the scores of users we have here... imagine being in the production forum and not having to click on another random free file hosting link again, waiting for that countdown, etc... it just makes sense to not have to open a new window to see what someone is talking about.

3 quick and easy fixes.

i like da simple complexity that is dubstep forum, please dont change too much of this!

tbh any strong colour as a background jus stains my eyes, the standard silver is fine if yu ask me

if i had to alter one thing bout this forum it would def be some sort of code that is written into the program to jus auto cache threads wit the words "wobble" "the wickedest" and "how do i make"

also jus an idea here but i'd like to see a magazine start from this forum, could start out as a zine, or an online newsletter, but it should quickly progress to something on print

also there should be something like a "store" sub room for merchandise of the forum and also open for artists an memebers to sale aswell sorta like a dubstepforum ebay thing,.....sale yur records on this, re sale records, shirts, etc.

thats my 2 cents 8)
