I have seen a lot of references to dB and Khz in regards to subwoofers and amplication, and I realised I don't fully understand the concept; E.g

'Let us say you are writing a song on speakers that accentuate 10khz by 2 db, and cut 100hz by 2 db'

Any links to articles that relate to this sort of stuff would be seriously useful. I tried a search but I wasn't sure how to phrase the question. So I hope you are getting a gist of what I am trying to ask.

You havn't really asked a question so it's hard to give you an answer

Basically when mixing you want to try and do it on speakers that give a flat response. That means it gives 0dB boost and cut across the whole frequency range (human hearing is generally from 20Hz to 20KHz roughly).

This is becuase if you mix on bass heavy speakers (i.e. boosted a few dB at around 50-80Hz), to make it sound "right" you will naturally compensate for the bass heavy response in the speakers by cutting your bass. If you then play on speakers that don't have the bass boost, your mix will sound deficient in the 50-80Hz range.

As a general rule, don't mix on Hi-Fi or CD player systems or DJ headphones (unless your ears are trained to these speakers) becuase they are designed to boost frequencies that we like to hear, normally bass and a bit of top end.
