pitch a sine wave up a few octaves
portamento (glide) helps
mess around on that moog
not very difficult to manage

All good tips, or you could do what most G-Funk producers do and sample great big slabs of anything Bernie Worrell touched.

try squares, triangles, and saws too. Imo saws will give you the most accurate sound but it's always good to try something different, eh?

BY THE WAY.. that synth line is called a
ghetto bird.
original NWA and Dr. Dre birds were made with a mini moog
just for a little bit of history
also, 25% portamento

i think you might be getting mixed up "ghetto bird" is a song by ice cube that uses the sample, but it is usually called "the funky worm" its an old school funk track that dre used alot in n.w.a's music

not mixed up.. i've heard it referred to as both, several times by industry people (ie. people that produce for a living) i'm very familiar with the funky worm, and the ghetto bird. it's a reference to the constant patrol of police helicoptors.

serox we're talking about the typical 90s west coast g funk synth lines that were more or less omnipresent in the day. like here:

In FL studio add a 3xosc channel
turn down all the way osc2 and osc3 to get a basic sine wave running from osc1.
In the misc tab select the mono and porta buttons and turn the portamento up a bit on the dial (about 40%). Use a LP filter as well.
draw a melody in the piano roll but overlap 1 beat at the end of each note to get the porta sliding up and down properly.

This is what I would do....
