Immerse 10 Part 1
Kuma / Kontext
Dawn Stepped Outisde (Horsepower Production Mark 7 Mix) / Plumes (Ramadanman Refix)
Immerse Records, #IME010PT1
Immerse Records has come a long way in a little over 2 years, releasing fine music from big names including Benga and TRG (both now signed to Tempa) as well as providing a platform for new artist debuts, introducing the world to the music of Forsaken, 23hz & Numaestro and Borg. Along the way, Immerse even found time to coax the legendary Godfathers of the dubstep, Horsepower Productions, back to the scene they helped create!
In fact Horsepower crop up once again, as they assist Immerse in celebrating their 10th release in fine style. This is the first of two remix 12"s, as Immerse friends and family are drafted in to remix some back catalogue favourites.
Kuma's tune 'Dawn Stepped Outside' first got the HP treatment back on IME006, and in case hardcore fans were worries by the distinctly modern slant of their first DSO remix, Horsepower gone back to the oldschool with their second – classic 2-step beats, shimmering pads and Rhodes, and a rude droning organ bassline.
Plumes by Kontext was a highlight of his recent genre-breaking EP for Immerse, getting as many plays from outside the dubstep scene as within, and now has a super-fresh remix from Hessle Audio’s dubtech upstart Ramadanman. Kontext’s amiable R&S-style original is rebuilt into an urgent 140bpm piece, where thudding kicks underpin the flowing atmospherics, and tense builds in the dropouts which give way to chunky whip-crack beats and droplets of watery synths.
