Why is that so surprising? Using hardware ain't some secret bullshit. These days the plugins are of such a high quality that you can take a whole track from start to finish and never touch hardware.

Cameras are a good analogy for this... Digital cameras can do everything and more that film cameras can, but film will always be used to get a certain look and feel. Hardware will always have it's place. One day, they will rise up to be our masters.

No need to make analogy..... it's simple, two options software or hardware. Both can make music, choose what you wanna choose.

I love a bit of hardware if only because the experience of cabling stuff together and twiddling knobs is very different from the experience of moving coloured blobs around a computer screen. And yeah, some of it sounds very nice.

But if 2562 and others are doing everything in the box, it does mean that all those people who say things like "you need a hardware synth to get really tight bass, software just doesn't cut it" or "if you want to take get pro sounds, you need hardware" or "stuff produced with software is alright but it always sounds a bit flat and lifeless" can stfu, pretty much...
