I can't believe that. What a fuckin shame.

I know there are some gay people on this forum, and I'm sorry for this loss and I promise you I will vote in your favor if it ever came to my state.

yeah it's fucking bullshit. it passed in virginia two years ago. that type of shit doesn't belong in a constitution regardless of whether or not you think gay people should be able to marry ... (and of course they should.)

I was surprised it passed as well. California originally banned gay married in 2002 (i believe), their state supreme court overruled it, allowed gays to get married, and now it looks like it will be illegal again.

which sucks, California is usually on the forefront of things like this. I feel bad for those who were able to get married, I wonder what happens now?

it did. there was a measure on your ballot as well.

florida passed amendment 2 defining marriage=1 man 1 woman measure. what the amendment would do is not only define marriage as a union between one man and one woman, but it would it also prohibit the recognition of any union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent to marriage. this means that not only same-sex couples are affected by this; all unmarried couples will lose their benefits and will not have their relationships recognized in the state.

today's election celebration is seriously bittersweet.

i agree. this is outrageous. I really thought it was so ridiculous that there'd be no chance of it passing. i voted no.

Results Status

Roughly 400,000 votes separate yes from no on Prop 8 – out of 10 million votes tallied.

Based on turnout estimates reported yesterday, we expect that there are more than 3 million and possibly as many as 4 million absentee and provisional ballots yet to be counted.

Given that fundamental rights are at stake, we must wait to hear from the Secretary of State tomorrow how many votes are yet to be counted as well as where they are from.

It is clearly a very close election and we monitored the results all evening and this morning.

As of this point, the election is too close to call.

Because Prop 8 involves the sensitive matter of individual rights, we believe it is important to wait until we receive further information about the outcome.

Absentee ballots go something like 3:1 Republican in the States though, mostly elderly white people and college students. College kids turned out yesterday, which leaves elderly white people... I'm looking at the OC here. = most likely failed.

yeah it was a landslide in FL for voting for the 2nd amendment. Florida approved it 62% to 38% of opposition. Affirmative Action also took a hit, having it voted against in Nebraska.

But...Michigan voted to legalize medicinal marijuana and stem cell research. And Colorado rejected the proposal to define life from the moment of conception, which helps pro-choice advocates there. South Dakota rejected for a 2nd time an abortion ban, which would have left it only to victims of rape and tsecni. Massachusetts voted to institute decriminalization for the possession of marijuana for under an ounce. Washington removed the possibility of doctors assisting in euthanasia to face criminal prosecution.

Its a see saw. A veritable see saw. But hopefully we can come together from both sides of the aisle to work together for a common good and the health of our nation.

Oh yeah, guns are staying in Florida. We are very sensitive about our guns. I voted for Obama, but it was hard because I'm such a proponent of the 2nd amendment. That's the only issue I agreed with McCain and not with Obama on though, so, I had to let something slide. But, I'm less worried about our 2nd amendment rights being taken now because 1) states have figured out that concealed carry works, I think 48 states have concealed carry now and 2) if they ever came for my guns they'd only get them after I was out of bullets.

I just realized you were talking about Amendment 2 ... not "the 2nd Amendment" ... I can see how I got confused, but, I think I need to cut down on the drugs and get my helmet on.

Exit polls for The Associated Press found that Proposition 8 received critical support from black voters who flocked to the polls to support Barack Obama for president. Blacks voted strongly in favor of the ban, while whites narrowly opposed it and Latinos and Asians were split.

Obama also said he was against marriage rights for Homosexual CITIZENS of this nation. First of all, that is bigotry. And apparently it follows him in the form of millions of bigots, who happen to be... black?

Yes.. people who were breaking the last chains of slavery decided to, instead pick the lock, preserve those chains and wrap them around homosexual marriage rights. I, for one, told you so.

Actually,counties south and just east of LA.

San Bernardino,Riverside,Orange,San Diego,and Imperial Counties are traditionally Red counties.Not to menion,a very solid portion of the people there are the not-so-subtle racist,homophobic,far-right Republican,born-again Christian fundamentalists(who,ironically,are made up of A LOT of ex-cons,meth addicts,and lower-middle class/poor whites trying to stay out of jail).

I voted No on that mutha.Not only because I don't agree,but also because it's just another way to hate on the haters.
