I've seen his name mentioned a few times here and given the vastness of his back catalogue are there any suggestions on where to start? From a I suppose dubstepy perspective, but also ambient / noise / drone standpoint, if there is any, too.
cheers.

I'm really diggin his mid/late nineties stuff on Staalplaat/Soleilmoon, but mentioning particular album or track names makes me ...but there's a discography at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslimgauze

http://pretentious.net/Muslimgauze/ Use this website, its full of info. I would reccomend starting with his BSI output, as they are the most approachable (At the City of Dread, Nommos Return, Lofi India Abuse) and going from there. Its allways trial and error with Muslimgauze, some beautiful and well composed, some unbearable to listen to and thats why its so fascinating.

Not sure from an album point of view, just looked at that wikipedia discography 182 realeases listed there geez! imagine if he was still alive...
heres few of my favourite tracks though...
"Abu Nidal" off an album called Coup D'etat - a nice hypnotic drum workout similar to shackleton's stuff
"Arab Jerusalem" off an album called Arab Quarter - An asstounding 20 minute+ ambient track... its just shocking what a sense of a place he had without ever visiting it. From the title I assume theres more stuff like this on this realease but I havent heard it...
"Mosul" On Mazar-I-Sharif - Beautiful Flute and as usual such a heartbreakingly strong sense of atmosphere!
have a look on the internet for some mp3s
I'm sure he wouldn't have minded you stealing his music...

If Ahmadinejad had a record label, he'd prolly be putting out the entire back catalog

If Muslimgauze were alive today, he would be suffering from extreme exhaustion with all the crap thats going on today in the middle east.

I've picked up quite a lot of his stuff over the last six or seven years, no one work comes immediately to mind though, a good place to start is with The Inspirational Sounds Of Muslimgauze -on universal egg, complied by Dave Tench, which comprises of tracks from a number of rare and lmt edition releases.
a few of my favorites:
Zuriff Moussa
Iranair Inflight Magazine
Maroon
Veiled Sisters Remix
Dar Es Salaam
Izlamaphobia
Hummus
Hamas Cinema Gaza Strip
Kashmiri Queens
Muslimgauze
Baghdad
Uzi Mahmood
Vampire Of Tehran

Dubsteppers looking to check out Muslimgauze simply must seek out SYRINJIA, either the 2xCD version or the hard-to-find vinyl. It is his dub album, though it's in his inimitable style.

I think he'd be making some of his most poignant and power music.
