...my folks moved down there about a year ago and i swear its the driest place in the world...
Its seems very much a bandsy type of place full of skinny jeans and Brand'esk barnets ..( im sure thats a sweeping generalization )... i know there is a huge student populous in winch so there must be some stuff going on down there..even a little drum and base thing in a student bar surely
If i was going to go and catch up with my folks down there whilst incorporating a jolly good skank were would i go ?
IS THERE ANY DUBSTEP IN WICHESTER?
cheers ...Make Me Proud Hampshire..make me proud

I have no idea mate, but if you happen to have any photos of the 15th Century rebuild of the East end of Winchester catherdral I could really use some right about now.

Winchester probably has the worst nightlife scene anywhere in the country.
But as the good bredrin Jah Pat says, Southampton is a 20 minute drive and has 2 regular nights gwanning these days.

I run a night called 10 TON in Portsmouth which is just down the road from Winchester. It's a great little night that packs out every month and has been described as Portsmouth's answer to FWD (we were chuft with that!)
We've had Skream, Rusko, Benga and Plastician so far, Chef is this Saturday (15th Nov) and December is Hatcha/Crazy D (20th Dec).
Full details can be found at
http://10ton.co.uk including our Facebook details.

Can't be as bad as swansea. only one good venue - monkey cafe. Everywhere else is full of peroxide hair, orange skin, valley rhoid heads drinking 'BLUUUEEE' as they so eloquently put it, and a multitude of utterly shit venues like 'Play' and 'Oceana'.
There is some light on the horizon, Benga in February..... only a few months to go!!!

I live in Winchester, and it's very dry. One Skream track dropped at the Arts School union on a random night, but there is a night at the main Winchester Uni SU which is drum and bass/breakbeat/dubstep, which might be half decent. It's easier just to go to South London on the train!

We probably crossed paths back in the day! There used to be a small club/bar that played commercial hip-hop & r'n'b, but I think you had to have a mullet to get in.
Winch is classed as the nicest place to live in the UK though.

Venue wise, I can't think of anywhere with a good enough sound system, and you've got to persuade a bar/club manager to take a risk on something that they probably haven't heard before.
There is a uni, but it's pretty small as far as uni's go and 1 college for which half the students will need fake ID to go anywhere!
Best thing to do is go out and check the venues and demographics out for yourself - won't take you long!

To clear up a few rumours, there are nights and places to go in winchster, but cause it's so small you have to look for em, they ain't gonna come sit in your lap. in terms of venues there's only TWO (out of a massive total of 6)!
1. The Railway Inn - Best sound system for a small venue in the south. Puts on live music most of the time, but keep your eyes open for Llama Llounges and Nob out rooms (they only come once a month or so) for some ecellent selection of live and unlive electronica, post rock and dub. These are the only nights likely to include a does of Dubstep!
2. The Arts School Union, notable nights being System 8 and retox both of which can invole a foray into Dubstep, however the volume levels at the arts school are dangerously quiet due to limiters so does involve standing right next to the speakers.
On monday the 24th of November there is an Obese Beats night coming up at the Vault which is a night of breakbeat, Drum and Bass and an Hour long dubstep set from me!
Plus on the 28th November I'm doing a Dubstep set at the Void vs Brap tour, (put on by the nob out room) at the railway.
mignt not be brixton but to say that winchester is totally dry of all dubstep is just a bit short sighted.

Agreed the railway inn is easily the best place to check out music in winch....had many a good night there.
