didnt really know where to put this, caus i'm pretty got damn desperate for some information about my problem...

right..

I've been having this weird hearing the last few days, like i'm hearing through a pair of tubes or something like that, and i've noticed that (i use headphones atm.) its like all sound/music is panned a little bit to the right, but i havent really thought much about it. then about 30 min.'s ago i was working on this tune, when i turned the panning wheel of the deep bass to the left and suddently (i use headphones atm) the bass disappeared, at first i thought it was the headphones, but then i turned them around, with the panning wheel still turned to the left and then i could hear the bass clearly, so i know its not the headphones, but my left ear. i tried the same with a kick drum, but it was like hearing through a transister radio with my left ear. The "hearing problem" just came overnight a few days ago, but i thought it might be the flu or something...

now i just cant wait for the doc to check my ear! i hope its just some sort of infection, since the hearing problem came from one day to another.

have any one else experienced this?

i really need some information about this to calm me down right now... :o

could easily be fluid in your ears. how is your balance? try taking some decongestants or something similar that could sort it out

well i dont know if its just the placebo effect, but i think my balance is a little bit out of order, but really, i've always felt like this :) now my problem is not that the bass is lower in my left ear... really, its nonexistant... just tried again with the same result... i can hear, (well not perfectly) but really clear, through my left ear, theres just NO bass what so ever.. this is weird.. and extremely annoying... btw. i've never used any kind of decongestant, so i'll just use what the doctor tell me to

There is no cure, it's called Tinnitus and I have it as well. You know when you have a loud noise, followed by a ringing in your ears? Enjoy that ringing, you'll never hear at that frequency again.

Welcome to the club. If you're not using ear protection when you go to the dance, you will continue to lose hearing until you are deaf. I seriously suggest everyone uses hearing protection, even in your studio. Also, you need to start from a low volume, that way you can gradually turn the music up with no fatigue.

This is 100% to scare you, you should be scared. Sounds like you are a producer, so this is of the utmost importance... you MUST use ear protection and stay away from loud noises. I beg you, there is no time to waste. Try the other remedies people post, but I'm telling you the absolute truth. I know a few people who are in the same boat with us. Do the right thing and you'll still be able to get some enjoyment. I know once on Dubstep.fm video, we noticed FSTZ using an in-ear monitor, and I believe he said he's partially deaf in one ear. So you can still do what you're doing, but you gotta be smart and possibly buy a new monitor.

you didnt state anything about a ringing, have you had a head cold lately?
it could be a wax build up also.

i had something like this last year where it felt like water in my ear for a few days. for store remedies, any solution that you would buy is hydrogen peroxide and a glycerine mix.
if you know your eardrums are intact, ie. no tears or punctures.
have someone pour a capful of hydrogen peroxide in your ear and leave it sit there for a 30 seconds or so and then tip it out.

but all that about headphones and tinnitus is double truth.. i think tinnitus will make any sounds pretty much excruciating moreso than attenuate bass,. but strictly headphone mixing is definitely more hard on the ears than other methods.
think of the relativity of that headphone transducer moving and the only reaction to that action is that of your eardrum and the air contained within the earpiece.. ouch.
working in the field of monitors varies the spl and stress on your ears.

Yeah, if you've got shit deep enough to actually be affecting your hearing then don't start fucking around with cotton buds... you'll compact the wax/fluid and make the situation worse.

Get yourself to the doctor... they'll probably get you to come back for an appointment with the nurse to have it syringed... as well as sorting your hearing out, it's one of the most weirdly pleasant experiences you'll ever have.

*crackle*

water in the ear perhaps, hold your nose and breathe out it very softly in quick little bursts NOT massive long ones that make your head feel like its going to burst, little gentle ones should open a small enough gap in your inner ear for any fluid to seep into your throat.

Why anyone would take medical advice from an internet fourm is beyond me.

Just go to the doctors. You only get one pair of ears, best look after them.

I had a medical for my new job and it involved a hearing test, turns out my midrange hearing for my right ear is way worse than my left :s
The doctor just said that as long as you are young and don't continually expose yourself to loud noise it can repair itself.
as for you oldies its just bad luck i guess :(

no offence, but this sounds like comfortably the worst idea on earth. go and see a doctor, he can stuff and otoscope in there and see if your eardrum is ok, and give you/refer you for a frequency range test.

none taken, but i guess us yanks are used to no-health insurance / diy modes of treatment. i wouldnt have recommended it if i hadnt tried it and found it effective, not going to blow smoke up anyones ass, or ear for that matter.

and hot off the presses.

ive started to notice the dreaded ringing more and more. not seriously but i second this, buy earplugs. im in usually in club environments all weekend + im sat in front of monitors most of the week and im sure a lot of you guys are too. Its worrying.

decent earplugs are a must if your serious about club music
