Cubase latency issues

When I hit the keys/pads on my controller (Akai MPK 49)
there is this obnoxious delay until it triggers the sound (on say.. a Battery 3 for instance). Like a whole two seconds or so! I just find it odd that the midi activity bar is responding correctly but the output bar triggers with this much latency. Can anyone help with this? Never had this prob on my desktop but I've since moved my operation to my laptop. Thanks!

you are using an asio enabled soundcard right?
if not snag the asio4all drivers or use the asio directx full duplex drivers
you can find it in the cubase program file under the asio folder
the larger the buffer size you set the less possibility of glitches in playback
lower will give you better latency
if this doesn't help fix your problem lemme know

Hi

I had some serious latency issues in Cubase 4 a while back. After a lot of messing around I found that under device setup in the midi port setup page, make sure the use system timestamp for windows midi inputs is ticked. This solved all my problems. 8)

Wow, DLed the Asio driver..installed it. It actually worked spot on for a while there. I took a break, turned my PC off. Just fired it back on and *poof* midi controller not even communicating with Cubase any more. After turning a bunch of switches on and off I got the controller to trigger the pad but now have no sound coming out.. (pulls hair out) I'm at my wits end here, any help is greatly appreciated.

ok,
1. what soundcard do you have?
2. what settings did you "switch on and off" ?
3. do you have sound fine outside of cubase?

just a quick lil brainstorm
navigate to your steinberg folder then into the ASIO folder
check your settings under dxfdsetup.exe and wpsetup.exe and make sure your soundcard is checked and sync reference is yes
