Yo
Right, I have seen a bag of threads this week about "Lost Dubs" and "Unreleased material"..
I was thinking of starting a label and approaching certain producers to release these unreleased dubs..
I was thinking a Single 12" Release every 3rd Month(2 tracks)
and
12"Double Pack once a Year(4-6 tracks).
Could people please send me requests for Unreleased dubs and the names of the producers that have created these rare wonders. I dont want people to send me a List of thirty tracks from different producers. Can we start small.... I shall pick a producer and you guys get to work with Ideas for me..tracks that you guys think are needed the most.
From that ill take the list and approach the said producers with the Idea and see what i can manage.
The 1st release id like to try for a double pack of both Benga and Mala... i know its setting my sites HIGH but u got shoot for the stars.
*EDIT I shall give you guys 2week slot to sort out your ideas*
Please let me know what you guys think. Safe D

if you managed this a huge collective hug would be in order. maybe if you take a gun you'll be more persuasive?

it's a great idea yes. don't get me wrong, but i never heard your name before and my question is if all the big names know you?
because i don't think they will give you their dubs just if you say: hey i wanna release them...
although sometimes it's not just that they don't find a label for their tune or the list of forthcoming releases is too long... sometimes there are problems with sample clearance or a producer changed his mind about a tune and thinks it doesn't "deserve" a vinyl release anymore.
sometimes they just did it for fun to play out....

Totally see where you guys are coming...
This isnt an idea i have just this minute jumped on... Ive been thinking of it for ages. I do plan on giving said artist a large proportion of the return that the release makes. I aint just going to say i wana release your unreleased tune "X" ...cheers fot that ..thanks.. Bye... I know it aint going to be that quick.
I also see what ur saying about them maybe not wanting to release the tune. Thats why the idea of getting you guys to collate me a few tune ideas is great (You obviously have to understand the Sample release rules and that jazz coz i aint Donald Trump so i cant afford to pay like 10k for a sample to be used but you know what i mean....) I've got a bag of my own ideas of tunes that need releasing but ... the artists i approach need to see that there is said demand for a certain tune.

guess with mala you might not get much joy as you never know what he's planning to release himself on deep medi or dmz in the future
just my 2 cents regarding old benga dubs - i really like "king of kings" and "tron project"

For it to work at all i will need a hefty list of people wanting a certain 1 or 2 tunes...
Need some names of Dubs for it to get anywhere!
Come on lads?

this. Otherwise everyone would be doing it.
Aside from the lengthy nature of releasing vinyl, which a lot of people overlook and can be the source of massive delays in getting tunes out there, producers might not want every single tune they've done being released, however popular it is.
Imagine for a minute that everyone did a similar thing "Oh I'll just ring up Skream and see if he minds me putting out tune X and Y" - suddenly the market is flooded with Skream tunes, he's competing with himself and sales will take a hit as a result.
You have a nice idea - there are a lot of tunes out there that people want, and would be happy to own - but you're doing some serious blue-sky thinking.

i love the idea but... an unreleased dub just doesn't seem to sound right when it becomes a released-unreleased dub.

This is a great idea, shame it's unlikely to work though.
But you should by all means try to prove us wrong.

I would pay top dollar for any tune played on Joe Nice's Lost Dubs show from early 2007. Unlikely to ever happen though.

Blue sky thinking. Yes i can see where your coming from Thinking. But im not easily put off of ideas.
I am fully aware of the nitty gritty with Vinyl releases and i have all the neccesary contacts (Pressing agent, Graphic designer, distribution etc etc etc) for ..if, when i can make this happen. I have got/can sort out the financial side as well.
Totally see what your saying about the Artists not wanting to compete with themselves for sales, with me releasing unreleased dubs, but i am not aiming to get Every single unreleased dub and put it out. The scene needs it dub culture still... I know there is a market for it and perhaps there are certain tunes that say Skream would have liked to put out but for what ever reason never got round to it... I could say.. Yes ill do it.. Ill give u x amount of cash now......x amount of the sales. I cant see what the problem is. I would be sensible in my amount of realeases.. The last thing i want would be to flood the market.. I could always do 1 double pack a year and one single release about 6months after. I am not doing this for financial gain....... im doing it to get some of the beats we have all spent hours of our lives dreaming of owning into someones hands i.e. Yours.
In regards to the "How many top names in the scene do you know and would they be willing to give me there tracks"... I know some.. But i dont see this as having to know people on a friendly level. I've always found these guys really approachable and they like it when people come to them for advice and with questions. i think if someone came to them with a solid buisness plan and asked for a few minutes of there time they would be on the idea for sure...
