compression can help.. but i'm no expert on that subject.. (i'm sure someone here is).
You shouldn't really need to use EQ boosting if you're using quality/the right drum sounds.
Try reversing a snare and having it just before the crack of the snare you want. and cut the crack off the reversed snare. when used with compression this is a nice effect

I suspect it might be an issue with the mix. What i'd do is turn everything except your drums down, then slowly bring them back up until the snare is sitting well and not being overpowered.
Best way to turn things up is to turn everything else down!

Try a compressor wth a slow attack and a fast release and a ratio between 2 and 4. the slow attack will leave a little bit of the slap transient through at the start of the snare sound. How come mixing the rest of the track quieter in relation to the snare is working? coluld be you need a more aggresive sample, knick one of a record,we won't tell anyone.

On the subject of layering - if you layer up 3 snares (lowmid, mid, high) then export that... then layer again to feel certain gaps instead of EQing and compressing terrible amounts - it -sometimes- turns out better..

I would suggest this and also try a distorted kick drum and play around with where you would like to roll off the low end.

Here's a small collection of snares that I have collected.

I suggest zvon snare 2 for a fat sound, layered with some claps and an amen snare.

I took the beggining bit of a snare once so that it had nmo attack, as it it clicked straight into the hit, then layered this under some other snares, if this sounds too harsh you can change fade in times.

sample Loefah - Disko Rekah
or Skeng
don't be afraid to steal people's drums. they would do it to you if your drums were good!

Recycling is not a bad thing in music if you do it with taste.

but taking someones work and calling it your own....
if you do something different with it then fair enough but there's nothing creative or original about using a loefah snare in a dubstep tune.

that is not only weak, its also pretty lame
why encourage someone to do that when their time could much better spent actually learning how to create their own heavy drum hits
just where exactly is the satisfaction in ripping someone else off?

layer your snares *I see you already do this
perhape a bit of white noise in there *claps also help
don't be afraid to us a snare with a little bit of bass in it *don't forget to rolloff the really low freq's
in your final mix...
mix around your drums (this is key) with the snare and kick being the most prominent sounds. then bass & hihats
that usually works for me
hope this helps
