hello.. im new in the forum and in producing dubstep aand im using reason 4 and I'm quite pleased with the kicks and bass loops i create, but i can't figure out how to add some nice effects and stuff.. I'm using mostly the subtractor for creating wobbles and i'll give u a sample of what I created yesterday.. I think its good but please tell me if I did something wrong or didnt add something.. and if there are any ppl in the forum who use reason 4 who can help me with the program please say your opinions :) Thank you.

have a go with that, its about as basic as it gets and is nothing special, but should be quite clear how i got it on the go

stick with thor man, such a sick synth

I disagree. (I would cuz I'm a tnuc hehe)

Learn the basics on the Subtractor, then get funky with the Malstrom. Only if you really need to would I reach for Thor.

The learning curve on Thor is higher if your new to synthesis, so why complicate things unnecessarily?

The Subtractor can make some sick sounds anyway, so it's not the worst synth to learn to use. As well as standard effects, pads and basses, Subtractor is excellent for organ and glockenspiel sounds!

If you truely want sick sounds at your finger tips, invest some time in creating combinator patches.

bare it in mind that these comments are from some one who, and i quote "cant stand reason 4"

yes subtractor and malstrom are good synths, and i see what you are saying, learn the basics. but the basics can be learned on any synth

subtractor and malstrom are simply old hat now, and are totally weak stood up next to the mighty thor

Well quoted! You've caught me out......

But putting that aside, I still reckon Thor is overly complex to learn on. (While I recognise it is easily the best featured synth in Reason)

I'm mean sine waves are a bit old hat now, but people still love feelin' em! :P

Tell ya what, let's have a patch contest!

You name me a sound, and I'll achieve it using a subtractor or a Malstrom!

not the beats obvoiusly, but the bass, go on son, you re-create that in malstrom or subtractor

once you have, you can send the patch over to me

Well you fail. I asked for the entire audio track, not the OST.

well I agree about the hats but umm.. but when they're too 'bright' they sound kinda strange to me.. idk i'll see what I can do. About the thor, yea I think you can get pretty cool sounds with it but its kinda hard.. that won't be a problem for me anyway, ill learn how to use it. And what's that combiner about? I can't figure out what it does

it combines things, you got a copy of that patch i uploaded right?

well that was a combinator patch, you can basically go from having one synth, to a chain of synths in one. a super synth if you like.

or effects, combine the effects devices, possibilitys are endless with the combinator.

i stick everything in a combinator these days

EDIT:- sorry that was poorly explained

open a new reason project, select a combinator, you will see a dark space along the bottom of the device, right click in that dark patch and then select a mixer, right click again and select a synth

now you have combined something, and you can just keep going from there really

Same.

It also keeps the rack clean!Makes shit so much easier to find spesh when you got like 5 samplers, 5 malstroms, a few thors and a subtractor plus all linking to EQs, verbs, phasers an filters!
