Alright ninja's, although I'm not making a whole lot of flow right now (if any) I'm wondering what a reasonable amount (percentage wise) is to invest (waste) on vinyl? Mind you I'm not a professional DJ although I do spend most to all my free time spinnin, and I'm in no need of any new equipment. How much of your earnings do you guys spend on vinyl?

I'm not professional on any level,
but I spend all my money on vinyl.
If you're just starting out, I'd say spend as much as you want really, but only buy the stuff you REALLY want.

More than I should.. Definitely agree with those who have said to buy bits that will stand the test of time.
There's been several 12"s which I've picked up on a whim and I usually just end up selling them..

Mostly buying digital lately. It's the way forward. I support certain labels with amazing tunes, but even then I almost always buy the same tune digitally or rip it to digital from vinyl.

i buy more than you.
from a more sustainable vinyl forest.
and i buy doubles of everything too.
and the .mp3s as well.
then i go on to discogs and buy the cheapest copy.
then i go to discogs and buy the most expensive copy.
then 4 months later i sell my original copy for double what i paid for it.
ooooh, i'd say i spend about four million euros on vinyl every week.

I spend about 40% of my dole on vinyl. Fuck you, taxpayers.
A lot of it's second hand. Fuck you, artists whose music I enjoy.
I buy a fair bit of homophobic dancehall, camp disco, anarchist hardcore and politically dubious oi!. Fuck you, consistent set of values.

lol well don't get me twisted, some days it starts sounding pretty slick and i curse myself for not recording it...then the next day (or even a couple of hours later) i'll have another go at it and it all falls apart for no apparant reason, still either way i'm having fun which is what counts

Ha. Not at all. Rapidshare, if I must.
And no, more seriously, I'm actually a DJ who DJ's outside of my bedroom and has bills to pay, various crowds to please. Vinyl is expensive and - the most important bit - incredibly impractical. Serato ftw.

LOADS.
Staying up to date with new bits and want, and hunting for the garage and jungle bits i like to get becomes costly.
It's not about digital for me, can do it, but it's like sex with a jonny on, not quite the same y'know!
