4x4 yes from Garage days; Oriental maybe, but not in what has been released? The first tracks I heard on this side of the world incorporating eastern themes were Camel Ride by Plasticman on the Rephlex Grime 3LP, Nomad from Distance on Hotflush & Skream's Monsoon on Tempa's Dubstep Allstars all in 2004..... prior to that, the influences were more obviously Dancehall, Hip-Hop, Jungle or Industrial.

While I'm totally down with the assimilation of Asian & Middle-Eastern sounds in Dubstep- I've been drawn to music from these regions for as long as I remember, and have been following Dubstep's parallel evolution with Psychedelic Dub from the likes of Shpongle, Shulman et al. which has been doing the same from day dot- I think producers should rely less on wholesale ripping of world music to pad out their tracks, and more on their programming abilities. The bar has been raised over the past 18 months, and those still stuck in the days of monotonous repetition of 8-bar beats & basslines straight out of Reason's Junglist are going to be left in the dust by increasingly dynamic competition who are advancing rhythm & frequency science.

Also, I'm digging the Techno influences evident in Elemental's SubFM Ableton set. 8)

what i was implyin is that neither element is a particularly new direction for the sound right now..

I think its really important that people dont start looking at this music too hard. Just let it move where it has to move or where it wants to move.

It is what it is and it moves where it moves.

I don't even pretend to understand, I love just being a punter. I keep turning up places and whatever it is that all you folk are making and playing it just keeps getting better and better.

Carry on!

yeah but some people have criticism engrained as a way of being, no need to unnecessarily criticise. I think there is a problem with people projecting whats happened in others scenes onto this music when its a completely different bag o' chips.

Feeling the music and the moment, enuff talented producers that I think the scene wont stagnate.

Of course people are allowed there isnt any supression on here and criticism is more than essential. As long as its constructive and it always is on this forum. But i meant in terms of the music itself people looking into it like where its gonna go, whats gonna happen, whose making what, what DJs playing what tune and why etc etc etc. If people look into it hard enough that is gonna influence them in what they are doing whether it be DJing, Producing etc.

Like if I started looking really in depth how the production of different artists has progressed and started looking at how their styles have evolved and listen to it so much sub-consciously that will begin to leak into my productions. I have had this before and its really annoying because as a producer I strive to keep things different and not have people saying "Distinction sounds like..." I want to be totally unique and stamp my sound down as just that.
