Im getting a new computer, what do you think i should get? i just cant decide... what pros and cons do people reckon on these from experience of using these?

Dedicated production machine? MacPro, all around machine? MacBook Pro.

i couldn't afford the macbook pro, so i got the macbook with 4 gb ram and a larger HD. so far, with logic, i've never run out of CPU.

compare this to when i was using a PC, i'd run out of CPU regularly and be forced to bounce down to audio all the time.

so, if you want to save 400£ (ish) i'd go for the normal macbook, just upgrade the ram and hd.

I've had a macbook pro for over 2 years now and it's still going strong. Has to be said having the portability of a laptop is very useful, and i run it into an external monitor etc. for the illusion of a desktop haha

If you mac guys keep saying your PC sucks vs. your mac, then you clearly do not know how to handle a computer. Maybe your CPU werent as powerful as the one you have in your new mac computer? Or maybe you had tons of small programs running alongside on your PC? A mac computer and a PC with the same specs are equal, you cant say it sucked just because it was a PC.

(I hope this isnt starting one of those endless mac vs. pc debates.
I DO like mac computers (i wish some company would starting creating stylish PC's, and microsoft would do something about the design of Windows), i just dont like the operating system, and the fact that you have to pay 60% more than you have to pay for a PC with the same hardware)

I'd be inclined to buy a more powerful pc for the money, then run it on linux.

Ultimately, anything by Apple is a fashion accessory. Unless your addicted to Logic, there is nothing on a Mac softwarewise that is so special. In fact, most of the bundled software is just gimmicky...!!!

That should've read "old macbook with 4 gigs".

Lack of firewire is a killer on the new macbooks. Personally I run a 2 year old MBP which has everything I need.

I've actually recommended a mate buys an old white one (still on sale on Mac website), adds 4GB ram, replaces the HD for a 320gb @ 7200rpm and 'downgrades' to 10.4.11 for the best Logic/audio experience. Would be way better than a new Macbook which they seem to have taken a step backwards with.

i had to buy a used white macbook when i sent my MBP in to get fixed.... even that 'lil $500 'beater' is a pretty amazingly solid machine. the only thing that didn't work for me was the slow re-draws in logic, as its video card is a bit slow; other than that, it's a great little machine.

my 3-years-old MBP has been really solid. though don't spill coffee on it!

otherwise, yeah, not a clue what they're doing w/ this new macbook with no FW. it's fast, for sure-- my sister-in-law has one-- but you can't do audio on a mac w/o firewire.

Ive got an Imac and love it. I went for the 2.4 core 2 duo, I havn't been able to max out the cpu yet

regular white macbook has served me very well

i can use double figures worth of instances of reaktor instruments in Logic with no problems.

any of them will do the job... just depends on your budget and how mobile you want it to be...

I have a macbook (black one, old style 2.4) with 2 Gig of ram and i run logic with bare bare plugins no problem...

however, if i could afford it i'd have a imac or a mac pro too cos i prefer working on desktops...

Oh... and OS X takes the piss out of windows any day of the week... stable as fuck and it's built on freeBSD...

logic is great too

Any of those will handle everything fine. I'd personally go with the iMac. If you have extra money to spend, use it on some new hardware instead of spending more on the computer.

you've got the wrong guy mate - i'm not one of these computer warrior guys. mac / pc... i don't care. as long as it works and doesn't crash - i'm happy.

having used pc's for almost 10 years i felt like swapping to mac. i spent the money because i wanted to, not because im "loyal" to a computer brand. i couldn't care less. and don't know enough about computers to hold a valid opinion anyway.

i was using a pretty good DELL pc and i've used Reason, cubase, fruity loops ad reaper to a high standard on that machine. with my mac laptop and logic i have had BY FAR the best performance and reliability ever.

You get Pro Tools 8 with it as well.

got one for xmas runs soooo sweet.

I gotta imac which is fairly new, aint had any problems with it, an its handled everything ive thrown at it so far with ease.

So im gonna say "imac" but it dont really matter, any of the 3 would be well worth buying.
