i was wondering how long do you guys think the longest live dubstep session has been? and i mean really live whit live instruments, not DJ'ing.

i want to break it

i have never finished a single track, but im a devil when it comes to improvising and preforming live,
why i have never finnished a track is probably becasue music is a very direct thing for me, and i easy get boored whit my tracks when i sit down and program and want to move on to the next thing,

i recently had a gig at a art show where i improvised for 6 hours non stop,
i went there whit just a few bars in my bagage to build upon, but it went great and people loved it.

now im having another of them art shows comming up where ive been asked to play.
this one is gonna last for a weekend and will be open all night,
and i was thinking this could be a good time to try and set a world record.

edit- never finnished a dubstep track i mean, ive finnished tracks before.
i have been in the electronic music scene for some time, but dubstep i have only been doing for 7 months or so.

I enjoy improvised music myself (I've done cookie-cutter jazz, free jazz, free electronic, funk, rock...), but I've never tried adapting my dance music to improv live. How do you do it? Have you recorded anything?

no way really? im kind of isolated here in sweden, dont really know much of what is going on out there. i thought live improvised sessions was fairly common.

i use sidechaining alot in my live sets, one sound trigger another and so on, allows me to control alot of things at once.
my setup is fairly simple, i use a BCF and a BCR2000 wich i can do mappings whit on the fly, some midi keyboards and a old roland s-50 sampler keyboard, also throwing in some live percussion.
then i just build some beat and use overdub.

i missed recording my last set, but this next one im gonna record and try and get on video to.

I suppose this counts as improvised live performance, and if so, good luck LOL

dude, more people need to be improvising. there's this idea that it's some obscure jazz thing. good to hear people are keeping improvising alive!

personally i think you shouldnt worry about making 'tracks' just record your improv then chop it together =)

im still a sound nerd thought, and my impro sets are never gonna get to that level of a well made produced track.

im really suprised, i started doing this becasue i thought it was a standard thing to do.

i myself have been setting up only to play live, any 'tracks' i have made are just live stuff that i have chopped together (though im just waiting on some hardware so i can start playing out)

have you got any recordings for your live stuff for us to hear?

no, i have only made that one impro gig so far, and i didnt expect it to go that well so i didnt think about recording it, also i just got unsure how to record a long session like that, what do i need?

i think maybe one of my friends recorded bits on it on a cell phone, i will have to check.

also im gonna plug in my old casett deck tomorrow and i can start recording short session here at home.
maybe then i could post something here later this week.

but my comp isnt powerfull enought to record long things,
also im already using edison for live sampling in my set.

i need something external, how long recording time can i get whit a DAT?
i could maybe borrow one of thoose.

you should try it, i just ran it for an hour whilst i was making some stuff and it didnt start lagging at all

i dont know how ableton works but i just inserted it as an effect on the master output and it records anything that travels through it

oh, and my laptop is really terrible
its really just an internet/word processor, not designed for music at all =)

well im using edison as i said, it works for short stuff, an hour shouldnt be a problem, and i also got my tape deck wich i probably gonna use since that saves me a little cpu.
im gonna record something for you as soon as i get time and if you like i can also explain a little more about what im doing whit the software., right now life is a bit bussy. maybe this weekend.


it is this long gig at the next art show im not sure how i should record, edison is not gonna cut it there.
maybe i could get seccond computer to record whit, but i got to do some digging for one,
any other ideas?
