SYNKRO - Lost Love
ON THE EDGE
12″ // £6.49
NOW: £3.50
WHILE STOCKS LAST!
DUBSTEP / GRIME / FUNKY
Released: Dec 2008
Catalogue Number: OTE003

Image

More darkly slinked 2-step continues to spill out of the S.Y.N.K.R.O studio this week with a cool 3 tracker for On The Edge records. ‘Lost Love’ and ‘Good Times’ both have the feeling of Burial releases, with sharp 2-step and dark garage rhythm constructions offset by lush atmospheres and plaintive chord changes for subtle mood enhancement, with the bonus of mixably locked grooves not slipping out of focus like said Burial tracks. The real surprise here is ‘Hold On’ sounding like some Wiley type Sinogrime cut from a few years back, but weighted heavily with electro drum sounds. Burial or Zed Bias heads should be checking this 12″.

SYNKRO - Everybody Knows
Smoke Sessions
12″ // £6.49
DUBSTEP / GRIME / FUNKY
Released: Nov 2008
Catalogue Number: SMOKE004

Image

S.Y.N.K.R.O and the Smokin’ sessions imprint move from strength to strength with the fellas finest release to date on the massive ‘Everybody Knows’. The obvious reference point is Burial, but the man done good with this one, edging closer still to that intangible sound with a tough and FWD dark garage engine with bilious Teebee style bass developments and the all important soul felching vocal sample, all executed to a high degree. ‘Dub Specialist’ on the flip trips out into a wicked dub experiment tying together dubstep, shards of 2-step and jungle breaks into a darkly effective whole. ‘Empty’ polishes off a prime plate with another Burial/El-B style dark garage wriggler with flecked electro elements to sound brilliant on a big system and sealing the deal for this 12″ as bit of a winner. Fans of Burial, Zed Bias, and Steve Gurley should be checking this.

SYNKRO - King Of Kings / These Times
UNKNOWN LABEL
12″ // £6.49
DUBSTEP / GRIME / FUNKY
Released: Sep 2008
Catalogue Number: DUBBY1

Image

Heavy dubs from Synkro with ‘King of Kings’ working a Coki cut skank and bass version, and ‘These times’ running a wicked steppers riddim primed for dancehall deployment.

SYNKRO - Don’t Know
SMOKIN’ SESSIONS
12″ // £5.49
DUBSTEP / GRIME / FUNKY
Released: Sep 2008
Catalogue Number: SMOKE002
Estimated time of shipping: 1-3 days

Image

Sitting neatly in line with Burial and Pangaea, this 12″ from S.Y.N.K.R.O contains some fine and deep post-2-step gear with the tried and tested formula of emotive vocal slices peppered over sharp 2-step rhythms and nestled in blue midnight atmospherics. ‘Get Down’ would have to be the winner with a sick sub drone and a down-pitched vocal intoning the title. Sick twelve.

SYNKRO - Hold Tight
SMOKIN’ SESSIONS
12″ // £5.99
DUBSTEP / GRIME / FUNKY
Released: Jul 2008
Catalogue Number: SMOKE001

Image

Pumped up Caspa and Rusko styles from SYNKRO for the AudioFreaks imprint. ‘Hold tight’ is the big ‘roid injected bassbin killer, rolling in with some West Coast G-funk styles before obliterating your dancehall with some reeling Caspa style midrange wobble outs, while ‘Bitz’ and ‘Balls’ on the flip get all sweaty and primed for the dancefloor. Obese.
