Hello
A friend of mine told me it was normal for preforming artists to mix in other artists track in their set, and call it a live performance, not using the word DJ on the poster, but he's own performer name
I find that hard to believe, but since I haven't seen many Dubstep shows I thought I'd ask here
thanx

if its live its live
99% of dubstep sets will involve the DJ playing at least one track that isnt their own....

ye that's totally cool to play other tracks that you like that aren't yours.
When i saw the Bug with Flow dan that was a live show and he was playing Distance, Skream, and even some old Roll Deep tunes. Obviously he played all of his songs too.

I think its best not to get into the whole live/dj thing. Basically as the others have said most dubstep events involve djing. Its not really a live scene so you can safely assume they'll be playing other people's tracks alongside their own.

Also if the performer has no turn tables, only Live (ablation) and a midi keyborad?
I am talking about live performance not Dj'ing

the border between live and DJing is porous innit...
Flying Lotus, for example, plays more "live" than 99.9% of electronic musicians, building and re-arranging tracks on the fly - but that includes other people's tracks. He will sample, re-wire, and re-fix things like 'Archangel' 'Windowlicker' 'Crank Dat' 'Hrs:Min:Sec' in brand new ways each time. Is that "properly" live? Does it matter?
