Theres probably been a few threads on this before but i searched it and found fuck all. Looking for general tips/tutorials on making pads as im fed up of either tweaking presets or spending yonks trying to make one from scratch. Also really like some tips on like 'background pads' ya know that just fill stuff out a bit that youre not really aware of (even though i imagine this will be in the processing). Also Burial - Ghost hardware pad sounds like it has fuckloads of processing - probably has but still tips on going about making it appreciated.
Cheers you sexy monkeys, you

well isn't a pad just a synth with a fair bit of release and attack.? the rest is up to you. i usually add a bit of delay and chorus to pads

Soft ADSR, lots of detuned waves, lots of highpass, lots of chorus.
Use chords instead of single notes.

yea if you look at alot of quality pad sounds they have gradual filters opening, panning, verb, ramped in attack, longer release time, and opten changes to the oscs like pwm

if you're not into synth programming then load up a nice 'thick' sample (strings or voice is a good start) into a sampler, loop a tiny section of it, slow attack and release, make a nice chord progression, reverb/delay, maybe a bit of chorus, and BOOM
