i think that nowadays term 'dubstep' refers more to the attitude and specific kind of vibe than narrow music genre
dubstep and breakstep are on a one scene and that's great - don't divide

i really dont want to start this all up again but lets just say that lots of people, especially those who have built dubstep from nothing (including Random Trio), don't agree with you.

tbh this attitude is getting a bit out of hand. great that you heads are repping the music outside of the uk but lets not forget where most of the tuned are being made ok

work of art don't belong to the artist from the moment of public presentation
value and meaning of work of art is not what artist wannted to say but what reciepient reads in it
and second thing - don't be so conservative - world is moving forward and u can do nothing to stop it

But i dont think dubstep is just music. I think many people have come to dubstep not just because of the music, but also because of the attitude of certain labels, producers, djs etc. I mean, personally, if Dubmugga was the most important player in the dubstep scene for example, after the amount of bullshit, beggin it, hype, that he chats on here, I certainly wouldnt be as into the scene no matter what his music sounded like. Its because I like the way what I associate with the core of the scene (i.e. the south london side) carries itself, musically and in terms of attitude (i.e. not full of empty hype and transparent a&r tripe and blatantly not in a rush to go anywhere except in their own time) that dubstep is cool with me. Its not just about music spreading here there and everywhere as fast as possible in an hi-tech a format as possible. The culture has to spread and that involves understanding a bit about where its from, not just where its at. It seems to me that lots of overseas artists/producers and fans on here do get that. But some blatantly don't!

sorry but... what fuckin culture do u mean???

personally i have big respect to all the people who started the thing - but nowadays it's not their property - music evolves, gets more inspirations from around the world - scene gets wider - imho that's great

i just don't like this "this is true dubstep and this is not"

u really want this scene to end like dnb? where every fucking tune from england is the same - and the strentgh of present dnb is in overseas producers

see that kind of arrogance really pisses me off! He explained what culture he's talking about - the culture of taking it slow and keeping it true -- and more - becuase its an intangible feeling. The culture is the context that surrounds the tunes you love, but is key to understanding those tunes.

i dont care if theres legions of fans all around the world, the key producers in the scene make tunes FOR DMZ and FWD specifically, and that keeps the scene routed here. Sorry.

The drum n bass comparison is getting a bit tired as well - dubstep is young and is going places. DNB is antient and has played out its lifespan - simple as that. Lets just let it be a see what happens.

Nothing personal though Reelcash. I hear what you're saying, I just don't agree with yyou on this occasion

Actually Id say that what killed drum'n'bass was the way the sound got taken over by formulaic bullshit (uk and abroad) and how people forgot the sounds and attitudes which made the music exciting between 93 to 97. anything good in drum'n'bass now is merely nostalgic to that amazing period. thanks for prooving my point for me.

geoff so u agree that attitude "this is the real shit and that is not" can kill a whole genre? thank u for cooperation ;)
alex i really don't care what u think about things happening outside your small yard - stay there in your small place surrounded by the huge wall of ignorance
and alex don't u think that "taking it slow and keeping it true" is not enough to call sth 'culture'?
ancient romans created culture, christainty created culture, chinees created culture - but we/u? we just make some sounds and attend parties
we are the part of the so called modern western culture - i think there is not enough things to call dubstep a sub-culture - maybe a sub-sub-culture ;)

This whole thing is pretty pointless if you ask me.

Isn't this the same genre-assignment argument that house, D+B, and techno people always roll their eyes at?

Let's just keep making good tunes. To paraphrase Zappa, arguing about music is like dancing about architecture.
