unknown tunes, little gems that the dj knows and loves and decided to share. if a mix gets me thinking about going out then it's a winnner too :)

diverse sound per minute)))

the presentation of the selected tracks.
combination of styles/diversity

pace. very important. I like mixing constantly.

&

who cares if the track was released in 2007? as long as its not over done really.
Lots of gems don't really surface right away.

Most important in the visual aids that go with your mix so that it becomes memorable.
Who cares about a name in a list. Add a wicked cover design and now it has lasting power.

I might be bias as a vis comm. designer.

It's good to read people's input in here(if not a little depressing...I'd hate to think that a mix I made gets ignored 'cause I didn't make artwork for it...I'm not a visual artist and that has nothing to do w/my dj skills)

It's good to try to discover as many mixes as possible on this board, imo. There are a ton of great mixes that are unassuming(ie not heavily promoted, not well-known members on this board, etc.). Sometimes a tracklist may look run-of-the-mill, but the mixing skills within will be unique. Just keep checkin' stuff from DJ's ya haven't heard(so you can then explore the ones ya like further). If ya don't dig it, it's not hard to delete it! :)

proper mixing, and mashing a bit. I like it when songs overlap alot and sound new, or different. Old tunes work good, I have a gem that I love but have never heard anyone play. Big buildups and heavy drops throughout

How do you guys feel about Double Drops in Dubstep???

Cause i use to do them lots with jungle and breaks. Then when i moved on to Dubstep, i did the same.

Now that i spun predominantly all dubstep and bass driven beats, i still like intricate mixes but i'd rather spin 2 or 3 more tracks in my set rather then doing a 3 or 4 min mix of 2 tracks.

flow & structure... tracks have to mesh with the tracks they are mixed with...often pisses me off if mixes don't flow & dj's just try to pack either the most or biggest tunes in where they don't fit/ sound good. Selection is important to me too cause i wanna hear shit i havnt heard before, dont care if its old or not, as long as its not rinsed out

I like hearing old tunes in mixes. Whenever i see tunes that mean a lot to me and that i still play myself, especially stuff like 'forgive', 'need you', old el-b stuff, ikonika, or any of burials work, i generally download it to see how it's been fitted in. When a dj does something new with old tunes it's very inspiring to hear. Making 2 tunes sound like 1 is an old trick, but it's one of the hardest to pull off. And if i like the mix it i leave a comment to say thanks for your effort. I don't think some people realise how much work goes into being a dj. Great mixes take ages to make and record to a good standard, proper hard work. Some great mixes on here only have a few comments.

Dunno. Each to their own. Radio for new stuff innit, good to have the names of the tunes read to you...
