I really feel Kirk would be made for this stuff as his style isnt a million miles away from dubstep. Im sure Gutta would agree

Richard H. Kirk from Cabaret Voltaire. They influenced just about every dance genre after them, but their contemporaries 23 Skidoo even more so. The bass line from 23 Skidoo's 'Fire' (1984) was used on the first ever Jungle track 'Radio Babylon' by Meat Beat Manifesto.
The other day I listened to Renegade Soundwave's 'The Phantom' from 1988. Pure dubstep!

Totally with u on that one mate. Kirk was dubstep back in the fucking seventies. Dunno if he's heard any of this new stuff, but I know he'd be well into it if he did.

Well his dub work is pretty fucking amazing. Last years 'Truck Bombers of Suburbia' album was incredibly original. I'd definately be interested in hearing his take on dubstep. Someone start sending him promos!

All I've got by him is Virtual State. It's sweet, so I'll have to look out for some of his other stuff.
Any suggestions?

RHK - Intone Unreleased Projects Volume 3
RHK Meets the Truckbombers of Suburbia UpTown
Sandoz in Dub - Chant to Jah

All good for starters, but christ his back catalogue is huge! If you can find 'em look out for any of his albums as Sandoz and Electronic Eye. The 'Earlier/Later' compilation on Mute is a good place to start checking some of his really early stuff (from 1974 onwards). Then there's all the essential work he did with Cabaret Voltaire. There are several good compilations available, so check 'em out. Might put a few MP3s up later when I've got more time...

right, here's a few random Kirk tunes to get you in the mood:
http://bleepfiend.co.uk/sitebuildercont ... action.mp3
(this one from 'The truck Bombers Of Suburbia' album from last year)
http://bleepfiend.co.uk/sitebuildercont ... _Remix.mp3
(Kirk's 2003 remix of the Cabaret Voltaire classic 'Yashar')
http://bleepfiend.co.uk/sitebuildercont ... action.mp3
(a '94 Sandoz tune from the 'Intensely Radioactive' album. this would've been classed as 'dubby techno' at the time I guess)
http://bleepfiend.co.uk/sitebuildercont ... trodes.mp3
(going all the way back to 1975, one of kirk's earliest home demos when he was a teenager growing up in Sheffield. UK underground electronic music starts here. Available on the 'Earlier/Later' anthology.)
enjoy

Sandoz - 'Chant to Jah' is a supremely dubsteppy Kirk record from about 3 years ago. I will often play this record early in a night before getting into the dubstep records.

A lot of his hard-to-find solo work has just been added to the iTunes music store.

Cheers man - these tunes are top! Especially the first two, properly heavy. Think I might have to hunt down some CDs

I saw 23 skiddoo at womad once with my dad when I was a bit smaller, heaviness on a grand scale
some old skinny puppy b sides sound quite dubstepish too

By coincidence I've just discovered that Kirk has a new album out this week...but only on iTunes!??!!
Anyone interested should search for the album 'Afro Digital' by Bit Crackle.
I've just had a listen to the clips - sounds pretty heavy in a minimalistic tribal kinda way. I'd buy it straight away cos I'm a hardcore fan, but I wanna find out if it's coming out on a proper format first....

Well it's not a "new" album per se. It's an unreleased album, and from what I've read it wont be on CD anytime soon. Kirk is so damn prolific he can spend the rest of his life putting out unreleased tracks he wrote in the 90s.
