....and press blurb below....

Dirty Canvas touches down in Berlin for a UK takeover! Combining the raw sounds of the UK underground, Dirty Canvas is one of London’s leading club nights, setting the trend that many imitate but none can replicate.

Dirty Canvas showcases the best in Grime music, referencing its close cousin Dubstep, its founding father Garage, the hyperactive sound of Bassline and the cutting edge, fresh new sound of UK Funky. For our Berlin Invasion things are no different and we’re brining over a selection of the UK’s most innovative MCs and DJs.

In the past 6 months Funky has taken over the clubs and airwaves of London. Joining the dots between house, African influenced percussion and the harder tones of Grime – it has fast become the most interesting thing to have happened to British dance music for years. At the forefront of this is MARCUS NASTY – founder of the legendary N.A.S.T.Y Crew, he is THE dj in funky. His shows on the legendary pirate radio institution Rinse FM has seen him won plaudits from visionaries such as Kode 9 and the stations founder Geeneus (whose also adopted Funky as his music of choice). This is surely the first time this music has made an appearance in Berlin and Dirty Canvas is proud to support it.

Marcus’s younger brother GRIMINAL is also making a name for himself. A member of the same crew that brought us Kano, Newham Generals and Jammer – Griminal is part of the next breed of grime superstars. His hype, hard hitting style has seen him become a grime fan favourite, as well as his recent performance on Ghetto’s track ‘Don’t Phone Me’.

For our next acts we take a left turn down to Dubstep’s wonky, experimental side. Kode 9’s label Hyperdub is one of the world most influential labels, bringing us artist such as Burial and Joker. Lablemates’s DARKSTAR are no different, referencing 2-step garage and the futuristic ‘wonky’ soundscapes that are readily associated with Zomby and Rustie. Their tracks ‘Need You’ and the forthcoming ‘Aidy’s Got A Computer Girl’ are prime examples of this, and their DJ sets don’t fail to disappoint.

Sticking with dubstep Dirty Canvas is extremely pleased to bring over its resident DJ ONEMAN to Berlin. With its upfront dubplate culture its rare for anyone to rise to the top in dubstep without releasing a string of must have releases – this isn’t the case for Oneman. Through combing classic 2-Step garage and mind-blowing mixing skills, Oneman has become one of the top djs in the scene. He’s played FWD numerous times and this month headlines the holy grail of dubstep - DMZ, in what’s set to be a landmark set – back to back with Kode 9. He’s also the only dj to appear on Mary Anne Hobb’s legendary Generation Bass sessions on BBC Radio 1 without releasing a tune – he’s that good.

Completing the line up are the UK’s premium party starters TOMB CREW. Rocking clubs up and down the county literally everyday of the week, the crew cover everything from bassline to jungle in a fast frantic session of tight mixing and outrageous bootlegs. Their sets have seen them play in Trouble and Bass in New York, France and recently Poland – but this will be their Berlin debut.

Full Line Up

MARCUS NASTY + GRIMINAL (rinse fm)
DARKSTAR (hyperdub records)
ONEMAN (fwd)
TOMB CREW
MAGIC / REECHA / DeeVD (dirty canvas)

i had my guesses where it could be - this was one of them. i know what you are talking about - not a big fan of villa myself, but will check this out nevertheless.

what are the doubts about the venue?

Thinking of going Berlin for this weekend, such a line up might convince me but gonna be with Argentinians and Canadians so gotta make sure this venue aint too sketchy/will freak them out someway..?

xtra knowledge would be appreciated.

nah, don't worry too much about the venue. it's basically a run-down mansion with an underground feel to it (very berlin so to say). the crowd was my main concern: lotsa indie/new rave kids and hipsters the last time i went.

but i bet the night will be fun still! (drinks are quite cheap too)

Anyone know how much it's going to cost on the door?

I'm definitely going (with small kru in tow), but I also want to drag along a couple of friends who are new to these sounds. If it's €10+ they're probably going to be put off.
