Pretty good read.
Raises some interesting talking points. Can see how the grimier end of funky (I think for the time being I'm gonna have to keep calling this end of UK house funky) could quickly get a bit boring and derivative. Would like to hear more stuff on the percussive slightly-better-produced side.
Need to download a Circle podcast or two but do they play stuff like Karizma and Gregory?
Also, I really hope dubbage doesn't catch on as a full-blown genre name. Will we be forever cursed by waste genre names henceforth?

we don't really like funky but it creeps into sets - tunes like 'do you mind' hahahahaha

i think he makes a clear distinction between the badly produced stuff - which isn't favoured - and the the stuff they do like - which are the bloody great tunes.

Completely.
Being tracking down a fair few old Karizma and Gregory beats recently. Anyone recommend any other complete badman producers on a similar tip?

Masters At Work
+
Kenny Dope and Louie Vega's solo productions
Kenny Dope's newer stuff in particular will do it for you on this tip i am sure, very ruff (the Dope Wax label in general also)
the Africanism project
on slightly deeper and (generally) more delicate vibes check all the artists on Yoruba
Mr V and Sole Channel also, but thats getting much more 'soulful'

might be just me but he comes accross slighty bitter about funky, I don't suppose what marcus was saying about them has helped relations

Ditto.
Not been to Matter but I've not heard great things with regards to security, etc.
And just realised, I'm away that weekend anyway

Lol.. i knew he's name would be mentioned sooner rather then later.
To be fair, thats he's opinon, i cant fault him for that..
And when i met up with him in napa we had a long winded convo about it, he expressed he's views and i did ours..
He's quarm was that to call it wonky was a disrespect to the music, i told him to tell them to fuck off, its an opinon and they should fix up.
He has said one or two things since about us not booking him so he dont care about us on scratchers shows etc.. but again, thats he's opinon..
I i responded to an opinon on our stance, music, tunes, shows, events and collected a pound everytime id be a rich man.
Its opinons.. good luck to him, hes making waves in the scene that he represents, hats off to him.. thats for him, its not for us/me
Bitter, not at all... it was a honest account of whats been said, and the lil stuff in peoples heads that needed to be corrected.
Nothing more, nothing less.
I hope that explained a few things

i dunno about all this genre naming ....
i mean respect to each crew for having their own sound ....
is it a bit like the whole what do you call it sublow? dubstep? or whatever - in the end one stuck ...
to me funky / dubbage is an extension of broken beat and deep percussive house - its just new tho ...
i suppose that aint something that hasnt already been said ....
to me tho - the freshest sounds around are coming from lil silva s computer ...
what do people call that? - its almost more grime than either funky or dubage ....
fuckit - i dunno ....
basically its all new uk house no? i just dont want to see it faction off before its grown into anything if you know what i mean ....
