Dubstep and the law...

i thought a lot about dubstep and the law lately. how do you guys handle things like
-making remixes of some track - do you generally try to connect to the particular artist?
-publishing remixes of lets say good old britney spears or some other major artist - ever worried about getting a letter that says "pay millions of dollars or you get in jail, bitch!"
-publishing dj-mixes in the internet - do you try to contact the artists involved or do you care about whether the tunes dropped are signed on a major or not?
i heard some creepy stuff about djs who were applied for the payment of 20000bucks or something because their mixes contained one or two tracks that were distributed by a major sublabel, dunno whether its true or not.
however, all the legal issues and shit eally piss me off, things like illegal downloads, too. i think everyone has to decide whether he wants to support artists also financially or not. i myself decided to buy all of my tunes some months ago, not becaus of fear of the law, but because of the quality and because i wanted to support artists. and i can say that im not very rich
its great that legal issues are not that present in genres like dubstep - i think that 99,99% of the artists do it because of the music and not for fame and money. who the hell is interested in mainstream shit anyway...
