Hey guys, fairly new to mixin and stuff.... im thinkin bout makin my own mixtape and im lookin for tips from u guys.... do u actually select tracks first and arrange them and try to mix then if its shit, you keep doing the same thing and rearrange? Usually how long it takes you u to prepare a mix tape ?

I like to get my tunes ready beforehand,otherwise it takes so long to find a track that the previous tune runs out and I have to start again - especially if Im stoned! Only trouble is it can take so long to get the tunes ready that theres no time left to do the mix

just start playing and see where you end up.

But sometimes, when I have two tunes that REALLY fit eachother, almost as if they were made for eachother, I write it down. That way I don't forget it, and it's easy when you're getting out of time.

If you wanna record a mix all I can say is preparation, preparation, preparation. Chose the tunes you wanna include, have a play around and see what combination of tunes sounds best, don't be afraid to change your mind you may find if you experiment you will find some tunes sound amazing together and watch for key clashes. If you're gonna record a mix and want it to sound good you can't just "let the tunes guide you" especially if you're new to mixing because you could end up with something that sounds shite

If your setting out to specifically record a mix, its best to get all the tunes set out first so you know its going to work. Sometimes it takes me ages to get it right (im a bit of a perfectionist) so it can be counter-productive, so its probably best to go for the happy medium and get a bundle of tunes together that you want to include and work from there.
