i think this topic is a bit in appropriate for a music that still trying to figure out where it's going and who and what it is. a bit unfair, innit?
believe me, im the king of calling out things that suck, an uberhater if you will. one of the main reasons i love this forum and the fanbase is because there is very little animosity towwards this music. its so refreshing to get on the board and not see posts like "this tune sucks, this tune sucks too" like in dnb.
i dunno, im just not feeling where this discussion might go. i love dubstep. if im not feelin a tune, at least i dont get all "this is a shitter right here" about it cuz even the shittest dubstep tune doesnt even make me sway that way.

Very few dubstep tunes "suck". Even with the somewhat expanded flow of new releases, the quality threshold is still high, because the market is still not that large.

there is some shit dubstep, this cumsucking forum just consists of 100s of nerdy fanboys who are too scared to voice their concerns in case one of their dubstep heroes oversees the post, then they cant introduce themselves in their brand new 'dubstep forum' t-shirt and oogling longingly thru steamed up specs at their hero at the next dmz.

i dunno about shit, but i've heard plenty of mediocre tunes i'm not feeling. but on the flip someone else will go nuts for a song i am tepid about, so i guess it's all about taste? i don't feel a lot of the tech itch stuff either, but a lot of people do? i can't call it.

This could have been a great thread. There are many interesting opinions expressed here. I could've started a brand new thread in the main section of the forum but it's not worth it as it'll only be a matter of minutes or hours before it's moved here, in the off-topic section, where negative opinions about dubstep ultimately belong.
I have been thinking and writing hard about it for some time : dubstep or the " evanescence of criticism" ...
People on forums - but not only on forums - have become afraid, fearing the online or real world consequences I guess, to voice negative opinions towards dubstep in general, or certain tracks in particular. All that's left are overly affirmative opinions about producers / tracks / dubstep, not a hint of negativity in sight. There is a severe lack of REAL debate. We have come to champion a rather hard form of musical relativism, in the sense that a lot of people here think that dubstep * cannot * be criticized, because " No track in itself sucks / is shit, you either like it or you don't " ( " De gustibus non disputandum ").
This lack of REAL debate, the domination of " obligatory praise ", in the end, will affect, in a negative manner, the evolution of the music we all love.
Remember what I wrote on dogs on acid ( I wrote something on riddim.ca about the Burial album reviews but I can't seem to find it ) about this same topic ?
Link :
http://www.dogsonacid.com/showthread.ph ... +criticism
" It seems there's some kind of unwritten rule on dubstep forums - this unwritten rule is more often than not applied in the real world - : dubstep cannot be criticized ; a dubstep track ( since it is not drum and bass ? since it is so forward and revolutionnary ? ) is by default a good track.
If you don't think so it's simply because you haven't evolved to the next stage of musical consciousness and don't quite understand dubstep : therefore, 1. your judgement is invalid, 2. You're a wasteman.
Praise is automatically given to tracks produced by well known and not-so-well known producers ( Skream, DMZ, Distance, Pinch, Boxcutter, M.R.K. 1, Loefah, D1, Coki, etc... as if they could not produce bad tracks. How many times have you heard or read : " This DMZ / Skream track is shit ! " ? ) to the point where dubsteppers don't need to open their mouths for you to know what they think. This lack of criticism, this
forced positivity to me is problematic. It seems to me that a lot of dubsteppers, who will not tolerate honest criticism - and honest criticism is not synonymous with overly negative criticism -, are blurring the lines between the good, the bad and the ugly, in order to make the ugly and the bad " look good ".
[ Criticism will be directed outwards, towards " less-evolved ", low-brow forms of music, such as drum and bass. ]
Listen carefully to whatever is in the dubstep section of redeye records or BM Soho, and you will agree that within dubstep there are bad tunes - and also REALLY bad ones. What's wrong with saying that there are shit, boring tunes in dubstep ? Dubstep cannot always be " sublime ". I don't care if some dubstep tracks are meant to be " spiritual " or " more intelligent " than tracks from more " dumb " dance music genres, if they are shit and if they bore me I see no reason for me not to say it. But it's as if one could not utter a single word against these particular tracks. Dubstep heads ( as they often interpret criticism of a piece as an attack on dubstep as a whole ) will immediately gang up on whoever has not been crushed under the pressure to say what the others say and dares criticize a piece. On the contrary, these tracks will be over-hyped by zealous dubsteppers, even more so if they are the doing of a well-known producer... at the end of the day, we end up with tons of track reviews which make them appear better than they really are. To me, this kind of criticism is the " death " of criticism. "

You must have used up a whole box of kleenex for that dude!
How many times have you heard a shit dmz tune then? I haven't heard a single one!
They're where they're at because their tracks are very big in the dance! If people are brockin and skankin hard, you think people are pretending to like them? wtf are you on geeza. They're not up there because some forum nerds 'bigged' them up!!

Mate you've got it so ridiculously wrong there, but it I cant be bothered to get into any discussion bout. If you cant see that this is one of the most genuine forums about then your just a cynical tnuc. 'llow that long paragraph, it amazes me that people bother to look into these things so deeply its just music bruv too many people digging its grave and jumping in it too quickly. Everyone thinks they know everything these days smug stnuc. This isn't a topic even worth discussing.

				just some small sideshow info:
every opinion is just an expression of personal taste,
500 people shouting to a tune don't mean number 501 has to like it aswell.
i'll say no more before i get dragged into all this controversy

And I find it amazing that the people enjoying this music to the fullest without any pretensions or cynicism have suddenly become the 'nerds'. dont get it twisted people. Transmission over.

look i like this music aswell, and i don't critisise the tracks that i don't like, i just don't buy them or listen to them, you won't see me at a party thinking "hmm he shouldn't have played that track next" etc..
i just don't seem to think the idea of critics not being tolerated came out of nowhere.
transmission over here aswell
