I'm going to start digitizing my records so I have the option of playing on serato/cd's if necessary. I've never done this before and was looking for some tips such as what software to use etc. Thanks

the software you use doesnt really matter that much as long as it can record at high quality... but im also struggling to find a good set of needles to do so... hence not doing it... it just sounds like shit... but i would really like to find a good way of doing it.

as someone who doesn't have access to studio equipment i guess good needles and a decent soundcard are the best i can do.

its all about the preamps!!! the best results will always come from a good preamp. more so than having the best needle.

My way for digitizing vynils:

Stanton STR8-80 with Denon DL-110 cartridge (via line-out) --> M-Audio LT10/10 souncard --> SoundForge 7.
Then I edit files with Adobe Audition - normalising, manually removing clicks (no EQ or something).

Not ideal setup ofcourse - I would add Denon DL-160 to my Denon DL-110 in the future, because 110 is a bit "shiny" sounds, it's good for dark, very bassy tunes, but not so good if tune already have gentle bass, - but anyway it works fine to me))

by thinking
£100 spent on a 2nd hand entry-level hi-fi deck, e.g. Pro-Ject Debut or similar would sound WAAAAY better than any DJ turntable, regardless of whether you've fitted a special cart/stylus.

DJ decks just aren't designed for hi-fidelity...
