For the $ they're a bargain; they blow away anything else in that price range.

I was just looking at these and I never knew mixing desks had usb, does that mean I could mix individual channels and it would be tracked on the daw? Like a midi controller but with the perks of using an analogue mixer?

Nah dont think it acts as a controler it just records whatever is going in the mixer and you will be able to use a&h eq's

. basically a usb tape send

Is there anything like what I'm asking about? I would love a desk that would act as a controller for adjusting channel levels on the desk and in the daw simultaneously, while having the warmth and analogue sound of a normal desk. Or am I over complicating things?

you can do this using midi control change messages.

Not entirely sure about that mixer but usually the cheaper desks with USB are only as I said like a tape output rather than any sort of midi control (speculating, ready to say i'm wrong). I really dont know if there is something affordable in what you are after but i do know they exist... I use an SSL AWS 924 in college and it is the shit son but dont come cheap ey. maybe have a scan about and tell us all about it

I'm pretty sure there is a tascam desk like this with midi.
Why not just get an apc or something?
Do you need the 6 mic ins?

Do you mean something like this?
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/NRV10.html
The NRV10™ is a new breed of gear that combines an 8 x 2 analog mixer and a 10 x 10 24-bit/96kHz digital audio interface in one convenient package—the perfect tool for computer-based recording and performance. Route and record mixer channels discretely to individual tracks in Pro Tools M-Powered 7.3 and greater (Pro Tools M-Powered 7.3 is a paid upgrade from earlier versions of Pro Tools M-Powered), Ableton Live 6 and other software studios. You can also return multiple discrete audio channels from your computer to the NRV10 for CPU-free mixing and monitoring complete with on-board digital effects—great for live performances. And that means you don’t have to change settings like EQ and reverb in your files every time you play a new venue. Flexible monitoring options also make vocal/instrument recording and DJ-style audio previewing a breeze. And the included NRV10 interFX application allows you to turn your NRV10 and host computer into a powerful live mixer with access to all of your VST effects. The NRV10 seamlessly integrates your computer with your studio—and bridges the gap between studio and stage as well.

Or this one...

Which has a 16/16 firewire interface. You can also assign midi to some of the shiznits.
Or the Korg Zero8, but thats more of a DJ/Live mixer, not really suited for studio work.
