mixing other genres with dubstep?

so im playing a set at a night in birmingham, the guy whos organising it said it would be nice if i could mix it up a bit, play some stuff thats not dubstep...
i know some of you might see this as probably "selling out" a bit, but honestly, any opportunity to get out there is good by me...
anyone got any suggestions of stuff i should look into?
since ive been so into dubstep for the last few years, ive kind of completly lost touch with most of the other music out there...
its kind of like, a bit of a "trendy" night, lots of indie kids and big egos and stuff, dont really know what kind of stuff these people are gonna be into?
stuff thatll mix quite cleanly would be pretty sick, cheers guys

yeah man, my set is obviously gonna be mostly dubstep, but i could do with throwing a few other tunes in there people are gonna be a bit more familiar with, its all very well enjoying myself, but if no one else is they arent very likely to ask me back again!

I often play through a range of styles if Im not in a proper club night - I normally play funk/soul/reggae early on then get electronic as the place fills up ... heres a few things that work
Electro and minimal stuff often clocks in around 140 bpm so it possible to switch between dubstep and that vibe - Skream 5 is great for this cos its practically house music anyways (well some of the tracks).
I used to play a lot of nu-skool breaks and much of that stuff crosses over nicely.
Look for cool mixes of bearable hits - dub step missy ellliot mix or what ever - if they recognize and enjoy one tune you get to play five more they aint heard of before they get restless again.
You can also drop in older hardcore tunes if you are subtle about it - but again familiarity helps SL2 rather than C-Tank.
I mash up trad house with some of the geeneus style funky stuff and that always works well when you are building up the BPM.
Finally I would not be afraid on cutting in the odd track - better a clean break than a bag of spanners crashing down the stairs. So if you get into a cul de sac have three or four big tunes you can simply drop when the moment comes.
It is much harder to show variation in a set than to knock out 2hrs of wobble so good luck to ya! The best advice I can give is look up - WATCH the crowd and preempt their mood. Dont just ignore them and plough on - they wont love you for it.
yeah thats my veiw exactly, i love all music, the only thing is i spend so much of my time these days listening to, mixing and (attempting poorly) producing dubstep, its become easy to miss a lot of other music, and most of the other stuff i listen to isnt exactly club oriented music.
i know VERY little electro and minimal, is there any specific track you could point me in the direction of?
ive got a few remixes of well known tracks i plan on taking with me, my original plan was to make use of these, as you say, when people look like they are starting to lose interest.
of course i could just be worrying for no reason, i could walk up to the decks in a room full of skinny jeans and cardigans, and walk away having converted everyone in there into a skanking king!

most electro/fidget fits with dubstep perfectly. go to dj zincs myspace hes got a few tracks on a free ep hes given away, chuck them in to get the birds up dancing then before they know it you'll have em brocking out to skeng in no time.

Do you use strictly vinyl or are you on CDJs / Serato? If you can go with downloads as a viable option for getting some tunes quck, hit up some blogs and get some remixes, go to beatport and snag some electro or other 4/4 stuff with a similar vibe to what you usually spin, and have a look at some forums for their dubs sections.
Dont worry about someone thinking you sold out for spinning other stuff... I do it all the time and I would never consider it that. In almost any given set from me Ill play some breaks, electro, house, dnb, hip hop, glitch hop, bmore or skweee. Its all music, and youre job is to entertain and also help people hear something they may never have heard before - at least in my opinion.
Have fun with it! Theres some electro tunes that sound sick double dropped with some gnarly ass dubstep.

There's enough variety in dubstep to keep a set fresh I reckon, but I'd say throw some 2 step, funky and grime in there.
also I don't see how spinning other styles is selling out, I think fixing yourself to one style of music is depriving yourself.
