tried this myself but they never sounded quite right, so now i usually take my reggae style stabs straight off the reggae sytle 45's...
instant nice sounding sample

they equipment that produced that sound quite easily as far as I know.
I think they always used chords too.

bash out one of them on the off-beat of your rhythm
kick-chord-snare-chord-kick-chord-snare-chord
use a nice organ sample, or VSTi that can rip-off an organ nicely
pure triangle through some verb or whatever can get some nice chord sounds imo
basically you need to be playing chords, not notes!

Are you serious?
Should someone be producing "music" if they don't understand music?

yes. Limitation means creaitivity imo. U gonna look for other possibilitys to get the same results, tho theyll be bit different.
It means new sounds.. easy example : burial

If a little different means "I'm going to put everything in the wrong key and call it 'experimental'", I'm not a fan and that is definitely not what burial is.

yeah burial's self-titled album, for instance, was definitely created by a person with deep affinity with his music-making methods.
for some people this is self taught but it is still true musical understanding.
I have played guitar since I was 12 but I don't know what A and B are, seriously (all i know is a general idea of what minor and major are and the blues scale). I will rip up some awesome music (display of modesty) but this is all self taught, and something I have learned to feel. I believe this is what you're talking about. In any case, limited knowledge is not "more creative" because ultimately it limits the bounds in which you have to create. People who have no idea what they're doing will create some funky shit simply because nobody else would try it. The masters know how to tap into this "musical innocence" while the end result is vastly superior (just like masters of martial arts, bruce lee's "learn form, perfect form, lose form" or whatever lol)
aaaanyway yeah 10 pound got it
there are variations though, I prefer the minor stuff. basically on your piano roll do this, where = means the key is being pressed and - means the incremental points on the scale (or the keys, both black and white). this chord can be dragged up or down of course to match whatever note your bass or whatever is at.
minor (my preference)

hell, you don't even need to use triads, just knock around with 2 note combos.

That is the key for everything, minor and major; Way to explain it, simple and straight to the point, amazing!

Maybe try a google search for reggae sheet music and guitar tabs, then write some similar chord progressions? Try laying down a chord sequence first and writing your bassline after.

Guitar tabs are where it's at.
