ok i just heard a new song by the count / sinden called 'stinging nettles'. it really should have been called ' the brutal electro patch and some drums'
at least when chase and status used it they changed it for the better. this song just uses the default patch.
pretty sure ive heard this patch in some other songs too, cant remember atm.

Massive is over used as a whole Well I say overused but most people have a pirated copy of massive sitting on their harddrive cause its the only NI VST what has the most seeds on torrent sites.
& you can tell a lot of the time when Massive is used due to the way the LFO is layed out and when a wobble is really twisty and bendy - you can bet its massive 70% of the time..But if people like it let em use it I say.
When NI has such a incredible range of VSTs - let alone the thousands of other brilliant pieces of software even loads of free ones too kinda upsets you that people always draw for the massive.
I just stick with reaktor and samples personally..
But I don't think theres many other "over used" VSTs - at least in dubstep, I mean you cant' say Subtraktor, Malstrom and Thor are over used - cause thats all Reason users have to play around with..

i guess i should have said most overused patches rather than synths. i just dont like recognizing a patch in a song
add deception by j.nitrous to that list (correct me if im wrong..), at least hes changed it nicely though.
not hating, just saying

Yea I think most of the nasty basses I use in Massive cam from that preset lol! Really need to have more sessions on massive its quite a headfuk to get into I'm still trying to get that Eastern Jam bass sound but its not happened yet!

I use massive to, i like the way i can use the lfo's and stepperformer and that other thingy...
I dislike everybody is using it though, so i'm really looking for a sunth nobody uses. I'm looking into some free vsti's at the moment and there are some really good candidates!

So wait, is it generally considered okayish to use patches that come with something?
I mean, ive completely taught myself about the little I know about production, and I just assumed that people would only ever use synths to make their own patches?
Like...what the fuck are you doing if youre using preset patches? lol!

I think it just comes down to personal preference.
I mean companies spend a hefty amount (well big companies) to get people in to build them patches for their synths .... so if you DO use presets - at leasts its been made by a professional to show off what you COULD do with the synth but its been done already so you might as well use the preset - that's the way I look at it..
Aslong as you give it a go yourself I don't see no harm in using a preset if its what you want so it saves you making it, not just downloading 934824823 patch banks or free/illegal VSTs just till you get the patch you're after.

Do whatever you want. You'll be dead soon, and whose gonna care then?
lol, I mean...its a fair point.
I still dont get it though? I swear producing should be a case of trying to make what you want in your head happen? I suppose, if what you were thinking just happened to be a patch then, like...
I just dont think I get it lol

You've very eloquently summed up the point I was trying to make in this thread.
http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t ... 3df5391739
Basically, fuck Brutal Electro, fuck NI Massive, and fuck all of you who insist on calling mid range cack 'bass'
That said, if you enjoy living life as a sheep, then jump on the midrange wobble bandwagon and live in ignorant bliss.
