I started learning to play the piano and sing in primary school, started recording in secondary school, and started producing at university.
Growing up, i’d play to Stevie Wonder records till the early hours, and then go to sleep listening to Art Tatum and Errol Garner.
Learning to produce was really liberating, because I realised that I didn’t need to rely on anything or anyone to achieve a sound I liked.
Air and Lack Thereof is actually the first tune I ever wrote, and it took me a year to work out how I wanted to approach it, but I think the waiting paid off.
Sparing the Horses, on the other hand, I finished in about a week. I knew how I wanted to approach it, but I wanted to push the sound into new territories.
More recently i’ve been including my own vocals in my music, which has really opened up a lot of possibilities, so expect new and interesting things in the future.
I hope people enjoy listening to my music as much as I enjoy making it.
Thanks to everyone who’s supported the release.
James
