I've just installed a copy of YouTube Downloader onto my work machine so I can snaffle some samples off of YouTube to pass the time on conference calls.

I've already got the program loaded on my home PC, so have got it installed correctly and can download the YouTube videos as .flv files as per usual.

However, I'm unable to convert them videos to MP3 files as I'm getting an error message telling me I haven't got the right codecs.

Have had a quick Google and am having trouble trying to figure out what extra things I need to get, and where they need to go.


Anyone know anything about this?

download audacity and lame. this will do the job for you.

I reccomend you get audacity (freeware) and then just record the output to your speakers, its much easier then downloading and converting etc...

Ah, this brings me to the next issue - for some reason my company network blocks all YouTube videos over about 1m in length. So I can't open them and record via playback using Audacity.


YouTube Downloader gets around that as I can still drop in the video URL and it'll rip an FLV file for me.

Update: Due to recent update in Youtube TOS, conversion from youtube has been disabled. We are working on adding features so you can download from other video websites along with other new tools to help you get mp3. Thanks

well that sucks dude. there might be other sites that can do this tho.

i googled flv to mp3 online converter and this site came up http://www.flv2mp3.com/ might be worth a shot.

I just use soundflower and record the output..

The By Url option freezes both IE and FF at my end, and the By File Upload option just displays an error message

This is Mac only? And requires the YouTube file to be playing on the machine?

Rightclick save as... Done!

No converting bla... just donwload and play..
