today I decided to check that Burial vs Four Tet record, to see if I should get it from the record shop I usually buy my records at.
they sent a mail last week with their new stock, and this was one of the new records.
my search didn't match with anything available, so I got suspicious it might be up for ridiculous prices on discogs allready..

and I was right.

now,
according to discogs this record was released less than two weeks ago

Released: 01 May 2009
today,
the prices for this record ar this:

£ 9.49

£ 9.99

€ 39.90

$ 39.99

£ 19.99

I'm sorry but isn't music supposed to be about, well, the music in the first place?

for a long time I thought of asking several known players in the scene if I could get specific tracks on dubplate, knowing that they might never get a release.
there are releases I'd burn onto dubplate and spend the fee of a day of work on having two tracks on a record.
but for wastemen who buy records to sell them with huge profit,
I wouldn't pay them with shit and vomit in a bucket if that could please them.
maybe I should ask those big producers for their dubplates,
people are making lots of money buying their rare records, I at the least would spend it on a cutting house.

the fact that people buy several limited copies to make profit got so far that at this moment, I have bought several record that I wasn't even fond of, just because I know they're sold out everywhere and unaffordable second hand,
and because I know myself, I get into a lot of tracks long time after their release, because they grow on me.
I was ashamed at blackmarket 2 months ago buying two copies of the same record, for me and for a friend of me,
ashamed because I thought they might think I'm one of those assholes making profit of music.

I just wanted to share this with you guys,
I really think it's a shame it got so far

 i agree its stupid!!!
but if you dont like it, dont pay it!

Posted: Wed May 13, 2009 6:10 pm
by thinking
it's in stock everywhere, it's not a limited press - first press 2000, another 1-2000 on the way. Anyone that pays over the odds without checking normal retail outlets is a mug.

Not that anyone deserves to be ripped off by profiteering c*nts of course, but caveat emptor and all that...

easy peasy wot u should do is just check all the forthcoming stuff u want and request an email once it's in.

if you're into the music as in...the music itself, get CDJs.

I love the collecting side of dubstep. Despite it being hard to get a tune you really like!

I hate to break it to you, but that record is worth what you are willing to pay for it. It's worthless if you wouldn't pay anything, and priceless if you'd pay out the ass. It's not profiteering to set a price and have someone willingly and happily pay it.

Since when is this a new practice?

They only press up 200 copies of certain cars too.

I bet it's hard work getting a chasis on the lave ;)

I have one question to the original poster -

Why hate on dubstep, why is the music a joke? It's the actions of others your pissed at so direct it at them not the music.

As for people b

this is just about discogs, you mention nothing about the music?
are you just raging because you didn't manage to pick up a copy and now it's sold out? seems that way.

just didn't bother to search for it anywhere other than where it would most commonly be overtly marked up for people who can't bother to search for it elsewhere

Wise words.

It's the same thing as people who buy tickets to concerts by bands they don't like just to jack up the price and sell them on eBay. :/

As for people b
point here..these tracks are great. i wouldn't hate on the genre bc the shit is outta stock..it'll come back b/c these are massive tunes but i wouldn't pay out the ass for a record at all but...supply & demand... ain't ebay a fucker?
