FRMNT005-HYETAL –The Last Time We Spoke/Armour
RELEASE DATE JUNE 1ST 2009
Formant continues to go from strength to strength and once again shows its eye for spotting talent. The latest to step up to the plate is Bristolian bass manipulator Hyetal with "The Last Time We Spoke/Armour.
Hyetal gets things on the right foot, where he takes things further into the smoky darkness with a heavy shuffling conga rhythm and reverberated chord stabs. His talent at twisting vocals into new shapes is further evidenced with haunting snippets over push-pull beats, growling bass and subtle piano riffs.
'Armour' keeps the unique flavour rolling with its lost in the rainforest atmosphere and spiky synths pushing their way through ever-bouncing toms. The murky vibes are joined by whiplash snares adding punctuation to creeping, warped vocals.
It's easy to hear why Hyetal has caught the ears of heavy hitters like Mary Anne Hobbs, Headhunter, Peverelist, Scuba, Kulture, Jack Sparrow, Forsaken, Ben UFO, Thinking, Bun Zero and it's another 12" from Formant that sounds as good on the floor as it does on headphones.
