Just been paid for a bit of work I did over easter so Im gonna put about a grand building up my studio which currently consists of:

Macbook
Sennheiser HD25s
Logic with some decent synths

Looking to spend about 4-500 on monitors (probably KRK RP8s, maybe Mackies)
50-150 on a audio interface
100 on a midi controller
100 on furniture

Anyone got audio interface recommendations? I'm looking to run the monitors off it and input my guitar/bass/SM57.

EMU 0404 is a very sturdy little peice, plenty of ins/outs, volume controls, wish I got this instead of the 0202, it's a bit crap tbh...

cool these all look pretty nice, like the look of the 0404 and the presonus firebox.

Anything else I should be looking at? maybe slightly cheaper if possible?

My dad's got the edirol u4 - fx (or something very similar to that name) and that's a very very good soundcard, decent quality built in fx, one one large jack input, it's all he's ever needed, headphone output, output control, and I think it's under 100 pounds. I reckon that would suit your needs fine

I've been using an EMU 1616 for the last three years with no probs. As you're only looking to spend £150 on a audio interface, I'd defo roll with a 0404

I have the 0404 and yes it is good

The Delta 44 by M-Audio is a nice one in your price range.

To be onest/ 50-150 budget for a pro audio card won't really cut it.. You're better off saving up for a bigger budget. I know from experience that it's best to buy a GOOD quality soundcard from day one otherwise you'll keep buying them 50-150 cards.. Not that they aren't any good ones for that price cos hell yeah there are. I'm just saying in a few years when you want to step ya game up a bit, you're probably gonna want a better sondcard..

Yeah I know what you mean but I've just got the dough together for some decent monitors and a MIDI controller and need something to run them off. Hopefully in a few years I can upgrade to something a little better but I think for 150 is about my top.

Kinda outta your price range, but the MOTU 828 MKII and it's the shit. Full on Audio/MIDI interface with Firewire connection. I have it wired t to my tascam patchbay and my Hill Audio 16 channel mixer. It's really useful cuz I can route all my computers audio through that to the mixer, cuz everyone knows, being able to twist knobs and slide faders is so much better when you can physically touch something and not look at a computer screen. If you really want a quality interface, you're gonna wanna drop more than 150 on it, imo.

I'm gonna have to disagree with the Motu being so wonderful. Firewire is glitchy business (unless you only have one firewire piece of equipment hooked up) I reccamend a pci interface. Honesty, your audio interface is such an important piece of gear that I would save up a tad more. I have been using an Emu 1616m (what i replaced my more expensive Motu 828mkII with two years ago) and I have never been happier. Maybe wait on the midi controller or get one of those korg micro's for 50 bucks. Its cheeper to buy something more expensive once than have to buy it twice imo. Good luck:)

hold back on the furniture and midi controller and put another £200 on your audio interface budget

probably get rinsed for saying hold back on the midi controller but if you're already used to pointing and clicking you'll be able to hold out for another month or two

+1 for the presonus firebox, never had any problems and I've ran it on PC and MAC

unless you're recording audio IN, you don't 100% need an interface to just work and get shit done. Yes, yes, i know-- blasphemy! YOU MUST SPEND!

for truth, there's no way i'd make true mix decisions on something coming out of a macbook pro headphone output but, but if it's just to write and get together sound ideas-- put that $150 back in your pocket, let it grow some, and then get something along the lines of an apogee duet.

basically, go large or don't go at all.

I've got an Apogee Duet paired with the Rokit 8 G2s... highly recommended.
