i prefer to use my asio driver for my soundcard when using ableton, but it means that all other pc audio, media player , youtube etc will not work.

i have to select direct x wave driver in ableton to get any sound out of any other programs whie it is running.

is there anyway around this?

as i cant seem to select the asio driver as the driver for normal audio on the pc, except my music programs?

bit of a pain really, if people send me tracks or i want to check youtube while abelton is running i cant hear them unless i close ableton or go to prefs and select the wave driver.

is there anyhting i can do?

Are you using Windows? If yes then read on.

Are you using an external souncard? If yes then read on.

I'm pretty sure that you need to right click on the little speaker icon down in the bottom right toolbar, and click on playback devices. Highlight the main outputs of your soundcard and click enable.

All your audio from Windows will then be routed through that.

Also, you may need to set something to 'background services' in the control panel. Can't remember what that something is, because it's been ages since I did it, but I'll have a look for ya, unless someone else chimes in.

doesn't ableton have a release driver in background option?
