na not really i still stand by every thing i said in my last thread.

but i whent to subloaded 5 last night and it has rekindled my love for this music and put some things back in suspective. im going to put my self out on a lim here and say i have been getting bored of the likes of Digital Mystikz, Loefah, Skream, Hatcha, Benga ( Basically the big names)

but going to subloaded last night made me relies/remeber there tunes are made for sound rigs not home speakers...

but i still think this music recently has slowed down in its development.

im not a dj and i dont make tunes but i do regularly buy records and follow music of all genres. i like to think of my self as quite open-minded with music and regularly seek out new tunes and artists in dubstep but also house,breaks, Garage, 2-step, 4x4, oldskool, minimal electronica, down beat techno, jungle, drum and bass, sublow, ambient, industrial dancehall, ragga, techno, techno-dub, deep techno, acid breaks, electro, ragga jungle, l, jazzstep, trip jungle, freeform, gabber, brakecoure, blues, jazz and even hardcoure...

the reason i think the sound has slowed down in its development (as ever this is all personal Opinion) is because people now have a idea of what a dubstep tune sound like. a few years ago when this music was starting to form people didnt have a structure to follow so people where looking in to there past and drawing from a whole range of influences... i get the sence that at the moment people has stopped looking to to over music styles but focus on dubstep for there influences... and think to them selfs ''ok i got this beat going on here and now how can i brake it down and introduce such and such to turn this in to a dubstep beat"

you my laugh but imagine taking a hardcoure rift from some one like darren styles and turning it in to a dubstep tune im Constantly amazed that people aren’t doing things like this because this music is so new it seems to be a pity to put structures init when there is still so much we can lurn from over musical areas... and after all if you look at all the biggest tunes they allways have something to Separate them from the crowed. ( Scuba - twisted thats like a rocktune and a dub tune or asbo's - asbo 1 tune i mean what the fuck is that? and for that reason we love so much)

again im not a dj and i dont make tunes i have one record deck and not even a mixer. so maybe my opinion is not valid but i speek as a fan...

as im still young ( 18 ) i was never there to see jungle start and turn in to drum and bass and hip hop is like 30 years old now so for my Generation this music is some thing we can get involved in for the first time and see a apart of history forming...

got to say big up to hot flush for getting me hooked on this music and all the artists that i have records from Spectr, PINCH, Distance, Search and Destroy, Slaughter Mob, Toasty, Scuba, Boxcutter, luke.envoy, Digital Mystikz, Loefah, Burial, Kode9 , Protocol X, Caspa , DMZ, dubpolice, Oris Jay , j da flex, Scarecrow , zombie, DUB CHILD

also to h.e.n.c.h crew for booking names to play Bristol that weren’t getting represent...

Think that there's too many people trying to clone what's gone before and not adding enough new influences from outside. Pretty standard with most genres, so dubstep isn't really that different in that respect.

I got into this music at the tail end of garage, and it seemed to me that Ghost and Horsepower had distinctly different styles, probably because they were pioneers of the sound and there weren't really a great deal of other folks doing it. Helps that they all had experience in other styles so that they could go off at a tangent to create what they wanted to hear without regards to pursuing a formula that had already been created.

To my mind it's only really become formulaic in the last few months, so I'm sure someone else will come along with a new take and put a new spin on things.

Odd that there don't seem to be any Burial or Geiom clones but shitloads of Skream wannabes though - no-one's ever going to be better at doing Skream than Skream.

Maybe you should start making some tunes, sounds like you've got quite a diverse set of influences to draw from

when I explain dubstep to someone the most specific I get is, "it's a new sound." I agree that a formula has emerged; still the acts that pin my interest are the innovative/experimental ones.

I think what is most important is staying true to what has influenced you, not just copying what others in the scene do. I think when you stay true to yourself the music is imbued with an extra somethin'.

Not saying that you shouldn't be entitled to have an opion about the music. But there's one thing I've learned from years of experienc and that is that the music will always have a mind of it's own. No matter how much you would like it to go in a certain direction, sound a certain way or stay as it was at a certain point in time it will not necessarily do so. And it's definetly hard for a musiclover like yourself to do anything about it. It's just a matter of learning to live with and get the most out of it. Eventually it might even get better but it needs time to get there. I've had my doubt about hip-hop for years now but once in awhile there pops up some good stuff amidst the wast heaps of crap.
So give it time and see what will happen...

haha i wasent sure to make this thread because as i said im not a dj or a producer so in some ways i do feel im less entitled to this stuff...

and Shonky maybe your right and i should start and try and make some tunes thing is i just have no idea where to even start...

You're as entitled to have an opinion as anyone, probably more so as you're the one buying the records and going to the clubs. Would end up like the majority of indie gigs where it's just people from other bands and their mates in the audience otherwise.

If you are interested in starting making music, there's plenty of posts in production that might help you get started. If you've got a tune idea in your head, there's no reason why you shouldn't.

You can pick up free sofware on the internet or computer muzic who do cd's with bits and peaces that would get you started. From what i can remember the free instriments and plug ins were pretty good..

17 years ago, just as Deapoh, a dubstep legend in his own right, was entering the world, some of us were transitioning from underground acid house into a new post-acid club/rave culture. Many people bemoaned the new wannabe crowd in it for the "cool" and not the music. They complained about the ganstas making moves and the formulaic records. Sound familiar? It prompted me to write (lol, no email or forums 17 years ago!) to I.D. magazine with the following joke:

Q: How many ravers does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: 100. 1 to change it and the other 99 to complain how good the old one was.

It was always the way and probably always will be. However there are people who rather than complain about the way things are they get involved and move things in different directions.

As of right now I have as much fun, possibly more, going to DMZ, BASH, FWD as I did going to The Trip, Clink St and Crazy Club waaay back in the day.

Fortunately there's always a new wave of clever folk who want to make something new and fresh and make me keep wanting to jump up and down to a series of repetitive beats!

I guess if anyone feels that the scene is "boring" then find something new or be one of those brilliant people that keeps it fresh.

My experience is the same as dr bluebeat's. I've been through all the scenes since long before acid house came along, right back to 1981, and dubstep as it is today is absolutely right up there with the best of them. In fact in many regards it's better, because while I have nothing against drugs, the "temporary autonomous zones" of DMZ, FWD or subloaded don't rely on drugs for their effect.

This is a magical time. When the scene starts to suck I will say so, but right now, for all its imperfections, dubstep is still absolutely fantastic.

Yeah, has to be said that the crowd's make the scene - no trouble, no overdoses, all good. Was feeling that loads of the local free parties are dying as it usually seems to be ket-heads down here which kind of makes socialising a bit frustrating to say the least. £20 in a cab return to meet up with mewling cabbages in the countryside loses its appeal very quickly.

And for whatever I think about current trends, it's good to see that there's still new styles coming through and shaking things up to stop things becoming stale too quick. I'd like to see how things get shaken up with the return of Ghost and Horsepower - been way too long since they put anything out.

I think that there is amazing music being made in this scene. I am an old geezer and have believe that loads of the tunes that are coming through now we will be listening to in 5 years and saying 'that is still the shit!'

I bought all these records in the last this year. For me they are changing the dimensions and they rock it: Left Leg Out, Tortured, Surgery, Mud, Haunted, I Remix, Skremizm 1, the list goes on...

For me this scene is the most exciting thing on the planet right now. It is amazing! Believe!

Dubstep seems to have gone thru peaks and troughs like all scenes do. But it seems to me that it has a winning formula - some really arresting, innovative producers who draw their inspiration from all over the place and a really tight-knit fanbase Lets push things fwd>>
