yeah i think most of the sticky's are not need like the feedback ones can stay in the dubs. the mixing one has so much junk to read that it is a waste of time read. i dont think the bible is needed.

i think all we need is a nice welcome/rules to avoid all the crap that is posted here. and a redo of the FAQ to sort the noobs out.

then just keep current stuff up there like the comp's and the Q&A

we've been talking about merging the production threads w/ the dubs forum as there's no real benefit in having them in here.

in a way, the forums needs to be silo'd... you want to talk about general stuff, you do it in the general forum; you want to talk about producing a track, you do it here.

only problem is that recently the bulk of the talk here has been:

i have this new tune i want feedback on/whoops didn't post it in the right place

what monitors should i get

what's wrong with massive

what mixer should i get

ZOMG there's dubstep in the new terminator

lather, rinse, repeat.
.....

there's been plenty of other good discussion on here but the truth of the matter is that the general level of experience here is rather low--think of it as lots of fresh talent getting developed--so we're going to get the same questions over and over and over again.

so my suggestion: START A TOPIC on something else. Up the ante on the discussion.

One can complain, or one can proactively make a difference. go for it!

nowaysj wrote:Yo, I don't like how this forum is going.

Seems like there are a few threads that pretty much cover everything, each with a million posts each.

Is this a good thing? I say no.

Sometimes w/ the quest to organize, you can over do it, and get too organized - so much so that the organization becomes an impediment to access. I think we've reached that point.

My thoughts, at least.

I don't mind topic area rules, like post dubs in the dubs section, post production issues in the production forum, that level of division seems effective.
I definitely see where you are coming from and feel similarly, but I also agree with Tarakete. My problem is that I don't know the solution. I know for me - I like a balance of on and off topic.

I agree with Tarakete's assessment of the majority of the posts lately - I am going to challenge myself to think of some more good topics.

All the stickies are filled with people who offer no contribution to the thread topic what so ever.

If its not about production stfu, lets clean it up.

for the stickies, we all know there are like 4 or 5 members that have useful things to say, delete out everyone elses responses. Other people are just repeating what we already know or has been said or they are posting pics of alpacas and vigorously flogging eachother in an epic worldwide circle jerk.

that being said...put the stomp on this thread

This post. Over and over. It's killing the board.

I agree with this thread, and like everyone else don't know what to do about it.

Possibly sub-forum/boards the way forward? Keep most of the stuff in here but have a section for bla bla other stuff that is still to do with production? I go on the dubs section and just listen to stuff because I don't feel feedback is neessary, if there's a setion here where posters put their new tunes in a new thread they can maybe give a bit of desription to it? If there's a rating system on this board that would make it an easy way to give feedback too, if each thread just ontains one poster's work.

Dunno.

I've felt the production area has been a little bit flat for a while... I do agree that mega threads are no good, it's hard to find information in the them..
Maybe moderators could re name inappropriately name threads so that they can be searched more easily? I don't know if that would help.

I have an idea:

How about when we get Reese, wobble, etc threads - lets have both the usual hijinks (alpacas, google, and search, etc responses) as well as actually helpful responses. In all honesty, we (me included) have been very harsh on the noobs, and haven't been very helpful in general. I am not saying lets go soft - I love an alpaca or a moose, but lets be more helpful and less brutal than we have been.

This way we can direct new visitors to established answers, train them to search - yet also open the door to further discussion, new tips, and references to new methods and synths.

I agree - it's hard to comb through an 80 post thread, and I also feel less likely to respond b/c when they are that long and/or old - the context may change, and I also think people are less likely to read them.

^ true being harsh on new people isn't really the way to go... we want people to hang around right?

it's a forum not a wiki article so there is going to be a certain amount of stupidity and some useless banter
the search function on here could use an upgrade tbh, but definately should be encouraged to be used

I hear what eveyone is saying. I don't know what the solution is but definitely the wrong thing to do is to have izan control over the forum. If I can't make a joke in here I am probably not going to post in here. For me this isn't just a place to get information but it is also to hang out with my type of g33ks. I don't read the stickies at all. After all these years of using message boards my mind automatically ignores stickies whether I like it or not. So what if the same shit comes up over and over again? Message boards can be annoying no matter how you sort it out, you have to let it go. Honestly the only thing that would probably make me happy is if the place just ran itself. Like it was in here for a long time. I don't care if certain threads might be better in other sub-forums, at the end of the day it's just one message board the dubstepforum. Just ranting for no reason here really. I am going to get some sleep. See yall lata.
