and i cant remember what the reason sounds are like... its best just to take some time to have a look through, see which ones you personnally think are good, because everyone will have their own idea tbh, altho some if i remember are bloody horrible

Particularly for snares it is useful to layer a couple of sounds together, so that you dont get a really default sound and for some extra punch...

In terms of samples it think hats are the most important... Have a google around for some, using lots of different samples in one loop will really help make the beat flow and sound more interesting...

after about 50 kicks they all start sounding the same to me (think its my crappy speakers :D) so i dunno what to say about them...

The Reason Drum Packs are fine. Admittedly, there are some ropey sounding hits. My advice is:

1: Layers them snares (I generally use 2 to 4) and play with EQ to make 'em sound sweeeet.

2: Smash some Scream Distortion on your break (I like to keep the kick clean and affect most of the other parts). This will create a whole new feel to the standard sounding kits.

3: Eq, eq and eq.

4: I then take a copy of the kit I've made with all the fx, etc and effect it in a different way and layer this over the main break for extra depth. Gives a 'fuller' sounding break imo.

Good luck!
