instead of pressing F11 and getting your usual VSTi window,

right click on the left pane, then create instrument track

you get an option to select a VSTi and then you can create Midi within that track

it's less scattered and more organized than having your Midi event and then the vsti on 2 diff tracks.

Also feeling the new GrooveAgent One in Cubase 5 for drums nice and simple for knocking out beats and the drag'n'drop feature direct from the arranger is killer.

I'm starting to sound like a salesman the more I post in forums.

love Quick Controls also for midi controlling vst parameters.
haha,

me too

but f**k it, cubase is dope

going to check out GrooveAgent One tho

Using instrument tracks all the time. But for Battery mainly midi tracks of course.

Favorite shortcut is key "3" to slice/cut samples very quickly. Still love the multiband compressor from SX3, which I add (slightly) always after limiter, works always and I never use the one bundled in Cubase 5.

offline processing history is very slick.

even months after you've processed a file, you can change or remove the processing. even remembers the settings you used if you want to do a minor touch. very slick. oh yes indeedy.

I like the audio editing in Cubase, that it sounds louder than any other DAW I've used...very obvious difference. Is this feature available on sx3? Screenshots?

Loving the Instrument tracks. Started out with 5 using MIDIs obliviuos, was a bloody good day when i discovered instrument tracks. The VariAudio plug in is really good in 5, aswell as the audio editing. Object selection Timestretch is pretty cool too. Oh and the Read and Write automation buttons are wicked.

I'm saving up for cubase 5. Working on sx3 at the moment. I have been using cubase for 8 years now and i just recently found out about CTRL+D
Duplicate... man i was like :o Why didn't i notice this before!!!

I also I like the whole workflow to ones you figure it out. I have to admit i'm in a struggle right now, deciding if i wanna buy sonar 8 or cubase 5 though..

Sonar 8 is a really nice daw to, my current pc isn't able to handle it
But the new system will arive in a few days and that will have enough horsepower to drive 567 sonar 8's

Ones i saw cubase 5 im having a real hard time deciding!

that funny, i literally have just done the same, using cubase since vst5.1.... saw my mate doing it... how TF do you do that. Was like a ninja at select, dragcopy, select, dragcopy...

cubase is basically just full of slick things you keep finding/learning.

Right click any audio clip, go to Audio or Advanced (cant remember, at work) and offline processing history. a list of all the processing (reverse, normalise etc, or vst plugins) youve applied is there, you can remove (permanently or temporarily), change (opens up at the settings you used, you can then change) or re-order. only doesnt work if you do a timestretch, THEN something else.

I miss Cubase

My favourite features were being able to easily quantize regions which was great when programming drums in audio, and using the envelope to carve my drum sounds to exactly how I wanted them.

Try CTRL+K too, it is also duplicating, you just have to enter how many duplicates you want (Repeat command)
