10th OCT - DORIAN CONCEPT (LIVE)+ADDED JAMES BLAKE (HEMLOCK)
Posted: Sat Jun 20, 2009 12:41 pm
We're extremely proud to present a full live performance, and also a Bristol exclusive in the form of Dorian Concept (Nod Navigators).
Dorian Concept has been making major waves over the last year within the music scene, and is fast becoming a staple name within the electronic hip hop world. His debut album, 'When Planets Explode' was released to major critical acclaim, and we think a Bristol appearance is long overdue. With complex compositional and live performance skills - this is an appearance that you really won't want to miss, whether you're a fan of hip hop, dubstep, lounge, trip hop or dub, or pretty much anything else - there's something in his music for everyone.
...and not forgetting....
Blue Daisy (Black Acre)
One of the good things about the continued democratization of music is that, when something truly exciting comes along, we get to experience it almost instantly. Just a few months ago, Camden, UK's Blue Daisy was just another unsigned beatmaker, studying for his law exams and shopping tracks to DJs and label heads. He dropped a few in the inbox of Mary Anne Hobbs, who spun them on her influential Radio 1 Experimental program, where Ian Merchant, founder of the Black Acre imprint, heard the songs and immediately scooped up Blue Daisy to release his lurching debut single, "Space Ex". Such lightning-paced development is more often than not a detriment-- artists are pushed into the spotlight before they're ready-- but when the music's this accomplished, everyone wins.
A big triumph for someone brand new to the game!

James Blake (Hemlock / Mount Kimbie / Bristol Debut)
New boy on the block, James Blake, has already made a crucial impact on the underground dubstep scene, providing inspriation and input on tracks for Mount Kimbie, as well as an already impressive catalouge of his own material - and we're extremely proud to bring him to Back to Bassics for his Bristol debut. He has also received rave reviews for his gorgeous Hemlock debut 'Air and a Lack Thereof / Spare the Horses' - which you can listen to here...

Dub Boy (Ruffnek Diskotek)
Ruffnek Diskotek OG, Dub Boy, will be making his Back to Bassics debut to make sure it goes off proper! Having played along side huge names in the game, including Digital Mystikz / Congo Natty, and also recently hosting an evening at the legendary Glade Festival - you can rest assured this local selector will get the party started in a proper Bristol, balls-to-the-wall style fashion. Lovely job!

Snafu (Se Fire)
Local hip hop DJ / turntablist, Snafu (Se Fire), will be making his 2nd consecutive appearance at a Back to Bassics dance, such is the quality of this young DJ's skills. Expect to hear the best cuts, scratches, juggles (and indeed tunes!) Bristol has to offer.
