my new needle produces a massive feedback hum when the volume and bass are turned up - its a shure m447. the cartridge is about 6 months old and the stylus is brand new - my crappy old stylus doesnt of the same model doesn't do it.
any ideas??

could it be the headshell wiring aren't correctly colour-coded? i don't remember paying much attention at the time due my inept use of the old needle nose bastards...if so does anyone know of how i can find out what the correct colour-coding is?
many thanks you lovely bastards
(note to self: write things when sober in future)

sounds more like a bunk needle/stylus to me, or possibly improper mounting of the cartridge.
headshell connection color codes are standardized:
red=right, non-inverted (positive)
green=right, inverted (negative)
white=left, non-inverted (positive)
blue=left, inverted (negative)
