so im trying to figure out this bass rise technique.
it's as if it stays the same note but get's higher. but not too high as it would be if you just turned up the octaves. ive heard it in some jazzsteppa and reso, its such a sick effect and would go perfect in a tune im workng on.

Pitch automation / pitch blend settings set high and played live to your needs

Some synths allow the user to change the formant without changing the root pitch of the note being played. Automating that could give rise to the effect your after (no puns intended)

Not quite sure what you mean but a parametric EQ with automation on the frequency would gradualy boost certain frequencies might give you the sound you're after? Kind of like a wah pedal but less resonance.

you can also use portamento (glide) to get that bass rising effect

i think your thinking of just a gradual increase in cutoff on a lowpass filter
to the listener it sounds like its getting "higher" without changing the pitch
increase the resonance and you will have a overtone that is increasing while the bottom stays the same.
i cant imagine you are referring to a portamento glide or pitch envelopes...

gonna need an audio example before i know what you're really on about, but modulating filters and waveforms can sometimes make the tone seem to rise when the note being played isn't.
(shameless plug) for example in my track 'space marines' the bassline rarely moves from one note, but the filtering and waveform modulation makes it seem not so monotonal. check it out

hah

sliding just semitones sounds like the bass is alot deeper, even though it's only a semitone
*shameless plug* on my track plan B the bass sounds like it's going down pretty far, but it's only a semitone each time.

Hmm.. modulate the pitch with an ADSR envelope, and then turn the attack knob to the freaking max. Use a a couple of detuned squares with some unison spreading to make them sound nicer.
And that's about it.
EDIT: I made a cheap massive patch for you, play it on C2 for a couple of bars.. I guess you can start from this patch.. or something.
