what type of layering do you do to your synths.

This is more directed at FL massive users, but would love to hear input from anyone really.
Basically im trying to make my massive synths sound more interesting. And by synth i mean my wobble synth

i usually try to add as much effects as possible in the massive program, but can never really get a final product with a really nice smooth clean interesting sound. what are some key vst's for layering or enhancing , distorting, or whatever that makes it sound really good, and clean, and attention grabbing, if you know what i mean.
Thanks.

instead of adding as many effects as possible, spend more time focusing on layering different waveforms together and how your synths work, as well as how individual effects work to help process the sound further. it's not so much which vsts you're using, but how you use them. a proper eq and mixing job are a big part of getting things to sound clean and clear. be sure to check out the production bible as well as some of the other stickies at the top of the page if you haven't already, and spend some time looking around on the forum, you'll probably find quite a few topics regarding what you're looking for.

I would definitely agree with allisfullof on that. I have found that it is nearly impossible to make a spectacular sound through layering of effects on top of a dull sound. Try to get the sound as interesting as possible using only Massive and then add on the needed effects, slowly, albeit. Don't over do it because you'll just muddy up the synth and waste cpu. General rule: shitty sound in -> shitty sound out.
