this is it guys.
this is where the real scene dies and is taken over by the kids with fringes and flat peaks.
this is where the tracksuit bottoms and baggy jeans are replaced by unhealthily ill-fitting skinny jeans.
this is.
enter shikari.
over-dramatic?
maybe.
will it kill the scene?
i doubt it.
why am i talking like this today?
who knows.

This happened months ago. Dubstep didn't die, it just told them to fuck off and carried on listening to Joker. All scenes get raped occasionally, it's what proves that we're not mental for liking the sound - it's no surprise that if a band with hardly any talent jump on board it sounds shit... it doesn't mean the genre's shit/doomed.
I saw most of their set at Glastonbury. Embarassing. Genuinely awful music.

New albums pretty good.
Havoc A and Havoc B are both pretty wicked.
Mixing genres is wicked
I'm going to be mixing Metalcore and Dubstep as soon as I get my shit together.
You don't like it? Kiss my fucking arse, you don't like it.

its not that i dont like the idea of bands using elements of dubstep. its just that its like some spray on denim floppy haired wastemen who blatently dont like the sound properly and are just sticking some dubstep in cos its what the kids like at the moment... bulllshit...

the fact that they put a wobble bass in (and probably the worst i've ever heard) is enough to know that they aren't really feelin it.

I disagree. Alot of scene-shithead kids turned away from Shikari with the new album, because it's more 'experimental' (Yes LOL) than the first. You've gotta remember, the 'scene' in metal is fucking pathetic, and the instant a band churns out a second album or does something a bit different is the instant all the cool kids suddenly hate them.
After listening to the new album and hearing stories about a few DJ sets they did from my mate who's mates with them, my personal opinion is that they want to be alot diverse than they actually are, but are scared that if they don't keep the image of being a bit metalcore, they'll crash. And they're probably right.

why don't they do what they want to do and if its any good they'll have new fans that aren't screamo-sizan, meaning a stronger fanbase and more job satisfaction cos they're makin what they want to hear

I agree, but they'll always be that band that made shitty nu-rave metal bollocks, won't they? And even if, for example, they actually produced tracks like Anti-War Dub, Midnight Request Line, Haunted, instant hits...I still have a strange feeling the Dubstep community wouldn't be very accepting.

I saw one of the members in this band do a dubstep set supporting Goldie the other week, was mainlly just wobble tunes but the mixing was ok

however im not really a fan of enter shikari and neither of this tune at all. but will be interesting to see how much they persue this change of direction.

oh yeah true.
i have actually seen enter shikari live, and while i spent the whole gig pissed off, it was at the fans' "dancing", was the most twisted cross between techno-stomping and headbanging i've ever seen. Quite annoying.
Plus the circle pits were just full on fights.
The band back then (2005) were actually pretty good for what they were, before any of this nu-rave bollocks was really about.

I reckon that's dead on.
It was the frontman that ruined them for me... they get some decent riffs going and everything, but he just does NOT suit that style... he's like some awful well spoken, British rip off of Serj Tankian... it's how I'd imagine myself to look on stage if someone was stupid enough to let me cover Chop Suey. I got the impression they were a decent band who'd been landed with a really pushy singer that keeps holding them back.

this^. and to be honest, they don't sound good live at all. the evidence is all there on youtube.
i think there's always some interesting things going on with sub bass and metal. korn used to do it years ago with the drummer playing sub bass pads during the tunes. since then, its been done by a lot of new metal bands. some do it well and some do it really shit.
it'll be interesting to see if some of the new UK hardcore/metal bands like trc and stuff like that, bring in more elements of dubstep.

Their set at Glasto was ok, nothing special at all but the crowd seemed to be loving it. I would have much preferred it if they had left out the wobble though.

It's not the pants El1 - It's the 180 degree switch that is alarming..
