''Okay. Right. Got It. So Mary Anne Hobbs has become the new face of Dubstep because all the blokes who make it are too ugly/underground. Lets call this the perfect compilation for anyone who likes to spend their evenings sulking in a darkened room with lots of other stoned weirdos''

:o

It still got a 7....unbelievable

It's a fair point for discussion.....it's an interesting release for sure...not quite sure whether i'll pick this up or not to be honest.

"okay. right. got it. i dont know how to write so im going to cover it up with pretentious crap and hopefully come across as challenging / controversial"

take out sulking and i dont mind that

although, could easily be interpreted as...

"perfect for the people who i dont understand cos im TOO FUCKING BATE"

i think its a sick compilation, although i am devastated by how many tracks are squashed onto the vinyl release, so i might just buy the cd i dunno

i'm pretty sure that was in Vice not the wire, how often do you get reviews like that in the wire?

The wire calls dubstep people "ugly stoned weirdos"?

Well that's the pot calling the kettle black if ever I heard it.

I like the wire - well a bit - and there are good writers on there, dub columnist Steve Barker especially, who is both a mate of mine and a friend of dubstep.

But reviews like that are just vacuous toss. It's not just that they should know better - they actually do know better...

Yes, the wiire wouldn't write this shit. Plus they don't allocate marks out of ten.

who cares about The Wire. They're a crowd of musical snobs who write pages and pages of nonsensical drab full of big impressive words. I prefer to listen to music than to spend hours talking or reading about it.

I'm glad it was vice not the wire. the wire might have been slow on the uptake with dubstep, but it's been quite supportive in recent issues.

not a fan of wire either. but i read that quote and i immediately thought 'i wonder what vice would make of dubstep'.

i'd like to read a full-blown vice article about dubstep, that'd be jokes. i'm betting it would drive most people on here wild.

edit: just remembered they totally ripped the burial album to pieces. that was pretty amusing, tossers that they are.

The Wire actually gave warrior dubs a very positive review this month. Memories of the Future as well. Steve Barker wrote both of them I think. They also quite liked Ruff Sqwads new one..

It's actually a really good issue, worth tracking down. Huge 8 page article by simon reynolds on spectrality :)

yo pokes, their agenda is to try and be as shocking as possible, simple as that. I love Vice for its articles and the do's and dont's but i just skip right pass there music reviews, not even worth reading.

big up mate! u and loefah tore it apart at warrior dubz

sounds sick

what does he mean by spectrality?

well, that was me just trying to use a word that's not hauntology, as he specifically avoids using that phrase.. k-punks latest piece is sort of a response to it, which is also worth reading.

I can't really sum it up in a sentence, but definitely grab it if you see it. also got interviews with colleen, joanna newsom and om :) their featured review is on grime mixtapes.. but its generally quite negative.

decent i may well look into it, reynolds is a master, probs worth it just for that
