Rhythm & Sound/Basic Channel

After visiting Hard Wax Records in Berlin recently I decided I'd better check out their very own Rhythm & Sound and Basic Channel releases.

I haven't really checked much Basic Channel yet but after spending the morning listening to countless Rhythm & Sound releases I now intend to spend AT-LEAST my next few pay-days buying as many of those 7"s, 10"s & 12"s I can get my hands on! The sound is absolutely amazing and if the original cuts weren't amazingly deep, sparce and spaced out enough the versions are incredible. This type of fusion of Reggae & Electronic music is what attracted me to Dubstep in the first place.......and it seems these boys have been doing it for the last 13yrs or more???!!! Where have I been!

Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus are my new heroes.

Definitely longer than 13 years man, probably closing in on 20! I have a couple from 1993. Their Basic Channel stuff is more techno, but their Rhythm & Sound project is especially amazing imo and is more reggae influenced of the 2 especially in the drum & vocal department. Check out "With the Artists" if you haven't... Also definitely check out Vainqueur and Monolake if you haven't for more dubtechno goodness.

yeah absolute killer stuff. One of the duo suffered a stroke not long ago and may not be making music for some time if at all. Very sad.

Also check out some of Deadbeat's sounds on ~scape

and Deepchord.

Even Plastikman's album Consumed of about 10 years back...

Moritz von Oswald is a very close member of my family. His stroke was very serious but he is recovering. He will almost certainly continue to make music and its one of the major things he is working towards.

He has recently played a few concerts and is on his way so dont worry...

he'll be happy to hear about the love there is for him in the dubstep scene...

and anyone that's in to his rhythm and sound stuff should check out vertical ascent... the last track in particular... its an amazing record and just joins the rest of the basic channel/rhythm and sound releases as a classic.

EVERY release on rhythm & sound / basic channel is a winner - don't think theres many other labels that i could say that about

check out the stuff on chain reaction as well which is one of their related labels
